The court
A badminton court is used for both singles and doubles matches but the ruling on the boundary’s court you are allowed to use will vary depending on if you are playing doubles or singles. The singles court is 13.4m x 5.18m making the playing area = 69.41m² including boundary lines and the doubles court is 13.4m x 6.1m, making the playing area = 81.74m² including boundary lines. However when setting up a badminton court you need to have 6.5 feet of clear space on all four sides of the court you are playing on or setting up.
The reason why it is the court boundaries vary depending on singles or doubles is because there is more players on the court at any given time meaning that they are able to cover more areas of the court so making it bigger. In doubles it utilizes a wider court than singles matches: it includes the area in the alley whereas singles does not, therefore making the court bigger.
The net
The net should be made of fine cord of a dark colour and a consistent thickness. The mesh that is on the net should be no more than 20mm and no less than 15mm. The net should be 760mm in depth and at least 601 metres wide, however there is no limit to this just a minimum. To hold the net up you need posts and these need to be 1.55 metres in height from the surface of the court and shall remain standing tall when the net is straining on it. The posts that support the next are to be placed on the doubles side lines (shown in the court diagram) regardless of it being doubles or singles it is the same. The top edged white tape that runs across the top of the net is to be 75mm thick and have a cord running through it to attach to each post, to hold the net in place. When the cable is pulled tight it should be flush with the upright posts with very little slack. When you have set up the court you will know that you have done it correctly as the midpoint of the net
