Barack Obama Accomplishments

Change. Hope. Future. All of these words can be used to describe our 44th President of the United States of America, Barack Obama the 2nd. He broke barriers, shattered stereotypes, and killed cliches. President Obama was able to take the position as president as an African American, an unprecedented accomplishment. President Obama also took steps towards free universal healthcare, a policy supported by millions of Americans, as well as many, many other accomplishments. Barack Obama was able to overcome overwhelming odds, and succeed as a president.

As President, he was able to influence our entire nation. First of all, Mr. Obama was a gigantic inspiration to the minority population in our country. He has said, “My fellow Americans, we are and always will be a nation of immigrants. We were strangers once, too.” President Obama was able to show millions of people in minorities that anything is possible. An African American man was able to become president in the United States, only several decades after an African American man couldn’t even drink from the same water fountains as a white person. President Obama showed them that no matter how high the cliff is, it can still be climbed. Not only did he help African Americans, Mr. Obama was able to insure millions of Americans of all races via the Affordable Care Act. He was able to save thousands of lives through that act, which was a tremendously large impact on our nation. Many people were unable to afford healthcare, and they were forced to try and help the sick and injured through other, less safe methods, or possibly just let them die, or not treat their injuries. Mr. Obama was able to combat this through Obamacare. President Obama didn’t only help people, but also our planet. He decreased carbon emissions by nine percent, which was a major help to protecting our environment. Carbon emissions are caused by the burning of fossil
His half brother, Malik Obama didn’t so much impact him , but his legacy as president. Irritated with how President Obama didn’t use his power to aid his village in Kenya, Malik used his importance as Obama’s brother to try and attack him. Malik used his twitter as a means to spread lies about how President Obama really is, such as claims that President Obama faked his birth certificate, a very popular false claim that many people hold. Many people believe that because Malik is President Obama’s brother, his false statements are apparently credible. Not all of Obama’s siblings had a negative impact on him, though. Maya Soetoro-Ng, Obama’s half sister, has helped the former President keep up a connection with his mother, even though she has been dead for over 20 years. Obama never had a very good connection with his parents, because his mother and his father divorced very early after Barack was born. As well as the splitting of his parents, Barack was raised by his grandparents so he barely got to see his mother at all, but Maya was raised by Ann Dunham, Barack’s mother. She is able to tell stories about her, and open up a window into her life. This is very comforting for Barack, for he sometimes may feel that he has no family anymore to help guide him. Even during his presidency, he was able to keep up with Maya on an almost daily basis, even
