Basketball Narrative
I have always wanted to play in the NBA. One day, I was playing in a basketball game at the Grand Ledge Gym. I shot a 3-pointer and made it! A few seconds later, the gym got quiet and all the people froze and then cheered loudly! A couple years later, I am lucky enough to be playing in an NBA stadium.
The gym was silent. Then, Dr. Naismith walked into the stadium. I said,
“How did you get here?”
“An NBA game just ended, how did you get here”, he said. .
“I think by playing basketball”, I replied. Mr. Naismith had glasses and was an older man, he had an odd haircut and a mustache.
“How did you ever come up with the idea of basketball?”, I asked.
“I had fourteen days to create an indoor sport, I called it basketball using the clever method of combining the word “basket” with the word “ball”. Then he invited me to play for the Boston Celtics in an NBA game at

Chuck Connors was right, the Falcons looked very good and Chuck had given me a starting position in the game. At first, the game was tied, then we came up by 9 points at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter it was tied again at 53-53. I had 10 of those points at half -time. I was exhausted and sat the bench for the rest of the game. We lost 103-99.
A week later, it was out last game of the playoffs, the series was tied. We each had won 3 games. In the final game, I didn't start. In the first quarter, we were up by eleven after the first quarter. In the second quarter I played my best and we were still down by 8 points ,40-48. I had 10 of those points at halftime. In the third quarter, when I came in, we were up by 2 points. I had 15 of those points! In the final quarter, with 10 seconds left, we were down by 2, I brought the ball up and with 3 seconds left, I shot a three-pointer and made it! That was the end of the game, we won!
It was the end of the series we won the payoffs. I said to myself,” how am I going to get home? Dr. Naismith

James Naismith was the creator of basketball. He created it in 1891 to condition young athletes in the winter. The “hoop” was a peach basket and the ball was a soccer styled ball. There were many rules for the new game. He created it in a YMCA gym in Springfield, Massachusetts. His team of eighteen was divided into two teams of nine and then the peach baskets were nailed above their heads. Every time one would score a basket, the game was stopped for the janitor to get up on a ladder and retrieve the ball. Later on, the bottoms of the “hoops” were taken out and they became a (sort of) real basket.…

And to finish up that inning we just got a couple ground balls and we turned a double play. And for the next few innings nothing really happened both teams were struggling to hit. Now it's like the 5th inning and we have the top of our hitting order up so we had:Liam,Luke,Ryan,Alex as our 1,2,3,4 hitters. And we got a rally going and we scored a couple runs so at this point the score is 5-1 and we have the lead so then I go into the 6th inning to pitch and I can only do ⅔ of the inning so than Ryan comes in and pitches and to finish out the 7th Alex pitches a 3 strikeout inning. So the game was over and the presedent of the league gave me the game ball to keep and bring home and everyone on our team got a trophy to take home after we won we were all so happy that we won the championship because it was or a lot of people the first time they won something. It was a really hot day. The scorching sun in the sky made it almost impossible to play. When we all got out the truck, we went to the field that we were supposed to play on. There was a game on the field. This meant that we got here early. Of course, most people would use that extra time to warm up. But for me, it was completely different. I sat on the bleachers. I was thinking deeply on my moves in order to bypass the defense. BEEP!!!!! The referee has blown the whistle to end the current game. The whistle snapped me out of what I was thinking. It was our turn to…

I couldn’t describe how I felt. I was astonished, I guess. We turned around, running to the other side of the court, and the crowd cheered again. Someone else made a basket too! This was the most exciting day of my life. I could feel my smile get the biggest and the brightest it had ever been. Then, I was guided to the other side of the court again and before I knew it I had made another basket. Sadly, and too soon, the game was over and everyone was cheering their heads off.…

The team we were up against was the fierce, very talented number 2 in the state, the Rattlers. Recruiting players from all over the country to play on one team, they were a powerhouse no doubt. Josh back in the lineup after sitting out that last game and the hour break we had, he was all fueled up and ready to go. First inning comes up and they bat first putting up a enormous number of runs counting up to 10 in the first. We came back with a 2 run inning. shut them down in the second, and came back another 3 run inning cutting their lead in half. Slowly gaining momentum we knew what we came here to dude and that was to win this championship. Third inning rolls around and we shut them down for the second consecutive inning. We come to bat, three walks in a row and im due up with the bases loaded. Pitcher throwing close to 92 mph, look almost impossible to hit. first pitches goes by and my eyes widened that was the fastest thing i've ever seen right down the pipe for strike one. Next pitch same result. Third pitch i knew it was coming, i reached back threw my bat at the ball and hit a GRAND SLAM! Putting out team down just 1 run with 3 innings to…

I decided to advocate to the coach about my involvement in the practices as a player. As I walked into the hot and humid office of the coach, I waited until he was not as busy with his work. As the fan turned, he finally stopped what he was doing, “What’s up, Ariana?” the coach voiced. I explained my aspirations to play basketball. As I spoke, I watched his face, trying to get a sense of what he was thinking. After I stopped talking, I waited for his answer. He moved around as if it would help him figure out what to say when he knew his answer was…

Since its beginning over a century ago, basketball has evolved from a simple form of exercise with only a few rules to a highly competitive and complex national sport. Basketball was invented by James Naismith at a YMCA in Springfield, Massachusetts, in 1891 (Fox 11-13). It began as an activity for the “‘ball-game’ void” months of winter (Hanson 65), and Naismith had five standards for the game. He wanted a ball that could be handled by a player’s hands; no one was to run with the ball, and anyone could grab the ball from another player as long as the ball was in play. There was to be no personal contact, and the goal was to be raised from the ground. He created the idea and standards for basketball by combining certain aspects of American…
