Platoon sergeants assign permanent battle buddies soon after the soldiers are in their units. This can be for a number of reasons starting from the most obvious reason such as: the two or three …show more content…
soldiers making a great and prosperous team or those same individuals do not like one another. Whenever possible, Battle Buddy teams should participate in training, in training, details, and other activities together. This builds a partnership between the soldiers and a sense of dependency, especially for those individuals who have independent personality. This also provides a sense of relief for the platoon sergeant.
Battle Buddies are also important because it gives that soldier ,possibly, a new friend, who can influence their lives. I believe two of the top reasons that the battle buddy system was created were: to ensure soldiers’ safety, and to build bridges between such a wide assortment of individuals . Separating soldiers from their families for months or years at a time can have terrible consequences but the brotherhood here helps with the pain, in a way. Battle Buddies exist for a multitude of reasons bothe major or minor; however, not every battle buddy team will always be able to work.
Soldiers’ attitudes and personalities can get in the way of being able to work with certain types of individuals, which causes problems in the system. Those problems may be small but they can end up hindering the mission and a an Army broken is an Army defeated. This can be resolved by participating in team building exercising that force them to count on each other whether they like it or not. This also teaches them about having to take their “punishments” and keep moving. We live to serve those who are imporatnat to us and if we can’t even get along, then we can’t call ourselves the U.S. Army.
Another good thing about the Battle Buddy System is that the instructor almost never notices that a single person is missing if in a large group like a Field Training Exercise, but they have a better chance of noticing if two people have disappeared.
That Battle Buddy can be the person(s) you may even be able to confide if you spend enough time with him/her. Friendships mean a lot to others whether they no it or not, so they again count on their Battle Buddies more and more. The Battle Buddy Systems just in simple terms brings out as sense of brotherhood and togetherness and the means we will pick up our brother and sisters when they fail, stumble or fall no matter what. The concept behind the Battle Buddy System can be through out the Warrior Ethos : “I will always palce the mission first” can mean that I put my Battle Buddies well-being before my own and making sure that we all make it home …show more content…
safe.
The second line of the Warrior Ethos: “I will never accept defeat” can mean that I will never accept that the fact that my Battle Buddy is ready to give up on himself/herself. If he or she has accepted defeat than I have done the same and I have just violated my Warriors Ethos and broke the very basic rules of being a soldier. This will never happen because have a responsibility to them as a Battly Buddy.
The third line of the Warrior Ethos: “ I will never quit” also explains the Battle Buddy System.
It tells how as a team we can’t ever give up on each other because if one fails or falls short of their expectation does that failure effect that soldier and soon, is affecting the entire squad. So when one falls short, the rest of us should be ready to pick them up almost immediately or better yet, catch them as they fall. That way, they feel that sense of brotherhood and partnership and now, the teamwork just got better.
The last and certainly not tleast line of the Warrior Ethos explains the key to the Battle Buddy System. “I will never leave a fallen comrade” is the very basis of Army Regulation/TRADOC Polcy Letter #14: The Battle Buddy System. We ,as soldiers, need to understand that if we leave behind our Battle Buddies, then how can we call ourselves Army soldiers? “ Teamwork makes the Dreamwork” as some individuals say means that by never leaving behind a comrade , they ,in turn, will leave us behind to be successful. We all shhare the blame or share in the reward as Battle
Buddies.
The entire Battle Buddy System is, in a word: a responsibility for yourself and some else. Toknow where they are and who they are with at all times, so if the occasion should arrise, that Battle Buddy can report any disturbances to the instructor. It is constant accountability in evrey way. The platoon sergeant can also allow soldiers to make their own Battle Buddy teams when it is not necessary for the asigned Battle Buddies to be together. This again gives you a chance to interact with individual soldiers that you are already comfortable with or even meet somebody new. And soon, your responsible for him or her now to and vice a versa. Essentially, everyone in the Army is tacted with the responsibility of keeping track of their Battle Buddies, assigned or otherwise. That’s what the Battle Buddy System is all about: accountability and responsibility, and I still have a lot to learn about that specific subject. But, has my time and Army career progresses, in believe that I will learn true meaning behind the Battle Buddy System.
