The Battle of Bunker Hill was caused because thousands of American militias were besieging Boston. The British wanted to control the area and the ports, so their ships can come in and drop off soldiers and supplies so to have an advantage, the British wanted to go to Breed’s and Bunker Hill, but the Americans heard about the plan and went to defend the hills from the British. As said by one British soldier, “A large body of provincial militia was plainly seen, from the house-tops and eminences of Boston, busily at work intrenching on Breed’s Hill, in Charlestown.” The Americans wanted to stop the British from taking the hill so they dug into the ground to make trenches, so they could wait for them.
