Early life
B.B. King is a famous blues guitarist, songwriter and singer. Riley B. King was born on
September 16 1925 in Itta Bena, Mississippi. When he was a young child, his parents divorced. He
lived with his mom. When he was nine, his mom died. He was alone until his father, Albert King found
him a few years later, working in a cotton plantation.
King sang in the choir at church and he also performed professionally with the Famous St.
John Gospel Singers. During this time, the blues was considered “the devil’s music” so he was not
allowed to listen to it, but he listened to the blues anyway. King’s boss gave him money so he could
buy a guitar and sign up for music lessons and King quickly became a blues musician. He started to …show more content…

King signed to Bullet Records and made his first recording in 1949 and three others at the
radio station, some of these songs include “Miss Martha King” and “I’ve Got the Blues”. He also
performed in an arena.
The Story of His Guitar
Once King was playing at a dance in Arkansas and there was a fight between two guys and
one of the guys knocked over the heater and caused a fire. King got out safely but he forgot his
expensive guitar inside so he ran inside, about to die just to get it. When he discovered the men who
started the fire were fighting over a woman named Lucille, and that is how his guitar got “her” name,
Lucille because of the foolish thing he did. This guitar became a big part of his life.
King tried to stay away from rock and roll when it became popular, he actually added a few
traits of early rockers such as Little Rocker and Fats Domino to his style. His first album was called
“Live at the Regal”. In 1968, King played all-night blues benefit with fellow rockers Jimi Hendrix and
Buddy Guy to raise money for his Leadership Conference called King’s Southern Christian
