The beginning of “Beauty and the Beast” opens up with the song number “Bonjour.” The scene opens up with Belle reading a book and making her way through the town whilst the townspeople are singing about her as they take on their daily routine Belle is a small and fragile individual yet she is seen as a very beautiful yet strange individual. Her appearance emphasizes her innocent and simplistic nature. Belle expresses how simple the small town is singing “Little town, it's a quiet village. Every day like the one before, little town full of little people.” When she refers to the villagers as "Little people" it most likely that she means little minded; she considers the town close-minded. The village is quiet and there is not much variation in people's routines.
Belle next goes through the baker's routine, same as every day, the next line "To this poor provincial town." She continues to refer to the town as provincial, meaning narrow-mined and unsophisticated, not much free thinking. Belle uses it to describe the people who live only in the town, while she explores the world
