vocational nurse will be one of the first steps to my success. There are many benefits when it comes to achieving a higher level of education which can be better advancement opportunities, better pay, and doing something I love.
Para 1: High school is the start to bigger and better things, but college is what will determine what you will do with the rest of your life. Everyone should take advantage of having the opportunity in America to attend a community college or university. Now a days, we have free financial aid, grants, and student loans that make it easy for us to go to college. Other countries would be blessed and honored to have all the windows of opportunities that we as a society tend to overlook. We do not always realize that having a higher education, than a high school diploma or GED, is almost essential to getting an advancement in salary or promotion at our work. Some companies will not even allow someone to become a supervisor without a degree of some sort. By going to college, you learn grammar, mathematical, and public speaking skills at a professional level that impresses management when viewing applications for a job. They would rather hire someone with a degree over someone without a degree. College graduates gain more than increased salary and a better quality of life, they have doors open up to them that were once closed. Dreams and goals that once seemed far and out of sight for someone can now come true thanks to obtaining a degree and moving up in the world.
Para 2: Now a days, the value of education is highly underestimated. People do not realize that education is the key to putting one's full potentials to use and achieving great things in life. A minimum wage job or entry level job can not satisfy one's will to make something of themselves. It can only get you so far in life until you are wanting more. The human mind was created by God to be tested by memorizing facts, comparing and contrasting on different life circumstances, making mature, accurate decisions, etc. We can not do all these on a daily basis if we do not have an education and a real job. This does not mean that someone without a college degree can not make rationale decisions, it just means they might not go through an as in depth decision making process before saying or doing something. People in third world countries come to America all the time to better their families and themselves by going to college. I am sure they see many Americans as fools for making up excuses for why we can not go to college and better our lives. I feel that we often do not want to go to college, because we, as Americans, are just simply too lazy to get up and go to school without a parent or county forcing us to go. Many people want everything in life given to them and that is just not how it goes. You have to want to succeed to actually become something in this world. We do underestimate the real value of an education and it is sad to see what my generation is turning in too.
Par 3: As a child, I never had a role model.
I did not look up to anyone in my family and I did not admire any actor, actress, athlete, etc. I made it my goal in life to become something that will better not only myself, but my family as well. Most importantly I want to be someone my daughter, Kierra, will want to look up too. I want my daughter to have a better, more fulfilling life than I had growing up. I strongly believe that I can not help her until I have helped myself first. I want her to realize the importance of going to college. I do not want her to think it is acceptable to go from job to job and never own or amount up to anything. I want her to understand that by not going to college she will most likely become unemployed sometime in her life and then she will have to rely on family, friends, or the government to help her get by. I also feel it will be like a monkey see monkey do scenario. As a parent, I will have a profound influence on her educational achievements. By having a bachelor's degree, I feel she will most likely become more educated, because she will look up to me. I really wish I would have had parents who went to college, so I could have looked up to them in an educational sense. Kids chose who they are close too to be role models, in good or bad situations. Child look to role models to assistant in shaping their behavior and decision making. Children chose role models who are achievers, because it helps them with self confidence and it helps them to push themselves in life to achieve great things. By placing a strong value on my education, she will do the same with her education. I hope she realizes that everything I am doing, I am doing it for our family and one day we will have a nice house, instead of an apartment. Right now as a certified nursing assistant, I can not provide for her as I would like too. I would love to be able to take her on vacations and to see the world and learn about other places and cultures, but financially
this is not feasible. Money is really tight, but I know in the near future it will not always be this way. With money being tight, there are often arguments about what we can and can not buy, do, etc. Once I start making more money and we get caught up their will be less stress in the house. Right now I work 10pm to 6am full time. I hate not being home at night and I feel like I work too much. As a registered nurse, I can hopefully get on at United Regional working 12 hour shifts so I will have more off days a week and that means we will have more family time. When my daughter gets older and she starts to ask questions about her growing body I will be prepared and can tell her with information and terminology that other parents, including my own, would not know. Also, in school I can help her with school projects and homework, something my parents could seldom do. My parents did not go to college and education in the schools today are way more advanced than they were when my parents were in school, so they could not help me much in school, especially mathematics. I will also enjoy being the brain of the family and I know everyone will come to me with their symptoms and what not and I can pre diagnose them.
Par 4: I am currently a certified nursing assistant. I make more than minimum wage, but nowhere near what I know I have the potential to be making with determination and an education. On average, a certified nursing assistant makes $21,000 a year in Wichita Falls, Texas. I went to school for approximately three months to obtain my license. As a certified nursing assistant, you can work in a hospital, nursing home, residential home, or a clinic. I chose to work at a nursing home, because I wanted to give back to the community and I figured it would give me a better understnading of what it means to take care of someone and to be patient about your job. I worked at Texhoma Christian Care Center for three years and I currently work at Presbyterian Manor. I am very passionate about my job and love giving back to people who truly need help. I have direct interaction with the residents, never call someone in a nursing facility a patient it is highly offensive. I access the resident by taking their full vitals, change them, help them with moblility, talk to them about what they did for a living, etc. It is good to actually take the time to get to know the residents. You find out very interesting facts about them and how most of them are veterans. I report any changes in behavior, vitals, etc. to a charge nurse, which is a licensed vocational nurse. Most people after they become a certified nursing assistant they eventually get tired of it and go back to school to become a licensed vocational nurse. On average, a licensed vocational nurse makes $38,000 a year in Wichita Falls, Texas. Licensed vocational nurses, like certified nursing assistants, can work in hospitals, nursing homes, residential homes, and clinics. They oversee certified nursing assistants. I knew right away that I did not want to take a year off from achieving my dream of becoming a registered nurse to go to school for a year to become a licensed vocational nurse. I figured why get side tracked when my goal is so close to being reached. On average, a registered nurse makes $63,000 a year in Wichita Falls, Texas. After I become a registered nurse, my annual income will triple. To become a registered nurse, I have to take a 72 semester hour program that begins in the fall semester of each year. After the general education requirements are completed, the registered nurse program can be completed in two years.
