The Eroica movie describes Beethoven as an easily riled person who considers himself equal to the nobility of Austria and Hungary. It gives no hints of mental disorders or long periods of internal emotional conflict, beyond his amorous designs for the Countess. Solomon’s account provides more detail. At the Lobkowitz’s palace, the movie presents Count Dietrichstein as a reactionary naysayer, a pompous noble, who lacks an appreciation for Beethoven’s genius . However, Dietrichstein’s view is consistent with the standards of music that were widely held at the time. Looking back, it’s easy to judge someone for not recognizing a musical genius; however, no modern analyst spent their life inside the musical ecosystem of the eighteenth century.…

People might think that all main characters are normal, well-minded characters that turn out to be heroes; this is not always the case. Jacob from the story “The Hitchhiker” has a disorder called schizophrenia that is affecting his life. Schizophrenia is a brain disorder that alters a person’s perception of reality (“Schizophrenia” 1). They may see or hear things that don’t exist, and might believe that others are trying to harm them. Undoubtedly, Jacob has schizophrenia because he has delusions of persecutions and he constantly hallucinates.…
Yet again, rain had come to shower on Beethoven’s life. Having a spiritual awakening and getting more involved with his successful writings, his past had agin creeped upon him. His nephew had tried to commit suicide and when people found out about the story, the boy was taken to his mother, not Beethoven, his legal guardian, but his mother. So this certainly raised some red flags for Beethoven.…

Poetry is one of the oldest arts. Poems come in many forms from songs, ballads, and epics, to haikus. Many poets use elements like similes, metaphors, personification, rhymes, and imagery to get their themes or meanings across to the reader. In the poem “Schizophrenia”, Jim Stevens uses personification of the house to give the poem its overall meaning. Personification and symbolism are the most important poetic elements to “Schizophrenia” because they are used to describe how the house can never be the same after the effects of schizophrenia and how the house personifies and symbolizes a family and the person with schizophrenia.…
The Genain Quadruplets are sisters who are identical quadruplets. The Genain Quadruplets, Genain, a false name used to protect the family’s identity, which came from the Greek term meaning “dire birth.” The false names of the girls are as follows Nora, Iris, Myra, and Hester (named from oldest to youngest), these names were chosen to resemble the four letters in NIMH, the National Institute of Mental Health. Each sister was diagnosed with schizophrenia at different ages and each case of schizophrenia is at different levels of severity. Nora, the oldest, is sometimes identified as the brightest of the four girls, was hospitalized at age 22 and never lived independently for an extended period of time. Iris, the second sister, spent 12 years in a psychiatric hospital starting at the age of 22. Myra, the third sister, is the only one to marry and have children. She did not experience delusions or hallucinations until she was in her forties, so it is questioned if she has schizoaffective disorder (Schizoaffective disorder is a condition in which a person experiences a combination of schizophrenia symptoms such as hallucinations or delusions and of mood disorder symptoms, such as depression) or if she has schizophrenia like the rest of her sisters. Hester, the youngest sister, is the most severely ill. She was taken out of school in the eleventh grade and never worked outside the home.…

‘In an important and influential criticism of the diagnosis of mental illness, Rosenhan (1973) showed that healthy ‘pseudopatients’could gain admission to psychiatric hospitals by pretending to have auditory hallucinations. Although systems of classification and diagnosis have changed considerably since the 1970’s, many people still have concerns about their accuracy and approriatness.’…
