Being Responsible
What does it mean to be responsible? Responsible means taking care of your duties; being accountable for your own actions. Being responsible also means to me is to take ownership; owning what I need to do and accepting the blame when I cause the problem. Committing ourselves to lead, to create, to solve problems involve being responsible. Whether it’s cleaning the house or just attending class, I am acting out of what it means to be responsible. When I think of having responsibilities I think of: cleaning my room without my parents telling me to; taking care of my personal possessions (cell phone, debit card); eating healthy food; getting plenty of exercise to stay fit; completing my school work; going to work on time; and so much more. Hence, having responsibilities can be quite daunting or challenging at times in my life. The reason being is because of Life. Life has its own way of thinking. Due to circumstances and unexpected situations that happen in my life; being a responsible person was the farthest thing from my mind. For example, I chose to go to work instead of going to class. My reasoning for going to work was because it would be less stress there or because it was a test day at school for which I didn’t study for. Hoping my professor would understand my job situation. Yes, I was being an irresponsible person. I can truly say that I’ve learned my lesson from it. Being responsible is important to me because I learned that it’s the core value for living honorably. It’s being dependable, when you have things to do. When I’m being a consistent responsible person; my boss, coworkers, friends and relatives can trust me. After all, if I don’t answer for my own actions, who will? I reckon no one will; I’ll rather take full ownership in my actions good or bad and be responsible for my own actions.
