Since 1784, The Third U.S. Infantry Regiment (also known as The Old Guard) has been proudly serving as a ceremonial symbol for the United States Army. The Old Guard originates from the First American Regiment. The First American Regiment fought its first battle in 1790. It has since gone through a series of both successful and unsuccessful battles, multiple relocations, and a significant change in the role. The modern day role of the Old Guard is to conduct ceremonial responsibilities at the funerals of fallen veterans and to represent the United States Army…
When seeking to complete a goal, such as the City of Kelsey has endeavored to manage, it is not an easy task. The City of Kelsey would proceed go through some steps to succeed a project, such as the Stanley Park Project. The City of Kelsey government, which has a powerful mayor structure (mayor-council government) should play a developmental function in the community. “Public administrators are engaged in a range of activities such as record keeping, money management, law and finance. At other times they do investigative work, searching public records for motor vehicle information, property deeds or life insurance policies of the deceased” (Boateng). In consideration to the Stanley Park Project, public administrators are required to do more in regard to the law and finance. “According to the proponents of the complementarity view, public administrators do and should engage in various policy activities, while refraining from those activities that fall within the realm of politics” (Demir, 2009).…

February represents much more than any other month of the year. As this month begins so does a celebration within the black community, with February being Black History Month it allows black Americans to reflect on how far their ancestors have come and how the black community has worked so hard to shape the nation. I feel that it is important to remember and honor the black Americans who have been laboring as far back as the days of slavery in order to gain a sense of pride within the black ethnicity. Beyond remembering and honoring these notable Black Americans, Black History Month can also empower and uplift future generations of Black Americans. If people seized to celebrate Black history it would be all too easy to forget the humble beginnings of black Americans and the tremendous change they’ve brought about our nation.…
When I think of community, I think of a much larger concept. It becomes a large mess of interests, values, and sub-categories, which make it impossible to digest the large capacity the word community holds. Community is a mess and yet manages to maintain its wholeness and withhold larger amounts of diversity. Individuals in a community can be different ages, ethnicities, or come from different backgrounds, and incomes. The concept of being apart of a community goes beyond thinking and acting, as individuals bond over common beliefs about shared interests and life. I also see the importance of individual rights in the sense that we do have a duty towards change and individuality by making sure our society or government does not suppress it, and that is the beauty in the face of America. On the contrary, I see that face has become dull and I see community as lost because people have began to put up more walls. It becomes a hard thing to identify because it doesn’t seem existent. Pondering the titles of these communities becomes even more bizarre because I don’t feel as though I identify myself a “member” of these communities, but perhaps as a small and average piece of these large concepts. Although there is this lack of presence, I do feel there are responsibilities I fulfill towards these communities and I recognize the role it plays in my individuality.…
This paper explores the African American heritage and also identifies the significance of nurses being culturally aware, sensitive and competent when caring for people of African American heritage. Although these terms mentioned above are used interchangeably, they have different meanings. Cultural awareness is appreciating the external or material part of the culture, such as the music, arts, and physical characteristics, and dress. Cultural sensitivity is the personal attitudes toward the culture, such as not saying things that is offensive to someone from a different ethnic or cultural background (Purnell, 2013, p. 4). Cultural competence is putting it all together; by using your knowledge to provide culturally congruent care and to be able to work effectively with people in cross-cultural situations. African Americans are the second largest ethnocultural groups in the United States; however, it is one of the most misunderstood cultures. This culture is so unique because they have mixed their cultures from their different homes of origin in Africa, along with American culture. This paper overviews the history, communications, family roles, workforce issues, biocultural ecology, high-risk behaviors, pregnancy and childbearing practices, spirituality, health care practices, nutrition, and death rituals in the African American culture. It is important that nurses see themselves as becoming culturally competent when caring for African Americans, and this involves incorporating cultural desire, cultural awareness, cultural knowledge, cultural skill, and cultural encounter with the people of African American heritage (Campinha-Bacote, 2009).…
