The Silk Road served as a cultural bridge linking the east to the west on the Eurasian continent. It was an extensive trade route originated from Chang'an in the east and ended at the Mediterranean in the west. This trade included both overland and maritime routes. The society that began the Silk Road was the Han Dynasty in China in approximately 200 B.C.E. The rise and fall of different civilizations and nomadic invasions transformed the Silk Road and its users, and from 200 BCE to 1450 CE the spread of religion continued along the Silk Road. While continuity is seen in the patterns of interaction along the Silk Road, during the time period 200bce to 1450ce in diffusion of religion through the Eurasian continent, clear changes is also seen. These changes include nomadic invasions influence on interaction of cultures and the surrounding regions effect on specific Products traded.…

One of the main ‘flows’ on transport, are goods (food, objects) that will be traded with other countries. The main improvement that has taken place in recent times is the creation of the freight transport, containerization. These containers can be loaded and unloaded, stacked, transported efficiently over long distances, and transferred from one mode of transport to another—container ships, rail and semi-trailer trucks—without being opened. The system, developed after World War II, led to greatly reduced transport costs, and supported a vast increase in international trade. Because of this increase in trade, containerization has help build a more interconnected world. Better relations are built and more trade is available to ship via this improvement in transport.…

Prohibition was not a noble experiment. Though well-intentioned, it was badly applied, and had many negative consequences. People suffered in many ways due to its unforeseen effects- people lost their jobs, lost money, and many even died of alcohol poisoning from tainted products sold on the black market. Prohibition also overcrowded jails and clogged up our justice system with nonviolent offenders- ensuring that violent criminals’ cases wouldn’t be processed with the proper attention to detail and allowing some to walk free. The lasting effects of prohibition are all around today’s world, and its seen (for the most part) as well intentioned- but applied in the worst way.…

The Silk Road began during the Han Dynasty in China. “ The network was used regularly from 130 B.C.E., when the Han officially opened trade with the west, to 1453 C.E., when the Ottoman Empire boycotted trade with the west and closed the routes.” This text states that the Silk Road lasted about 1583 years. The Chinese started using the Silk Road to mainly transport and trade their precious silk. It ran from China to the Mediterranean Sea. It branched out and extended in many different ways all across West Asia and Europe. Ferdinand von Richthofen, a German geographer, named the Silk Road in 1877.…

The route, the direction of the journey, was a huge part of interregional contact. No relations could have ever occurred if no one had ever left their own civilization. Trade had begun in the world and societies all around were benefiting from goods imported, wealth from exporting, and alliances with far-off foreigners. Francis Balducci Pegolotti had noticed the benefits of trade over the Silk Road when he saw how other European businesses gained wealth by selling foreign products. He proposed trading in “Cathay” (China) in his Book of Descriptions of Countries (Doc. 1, p. 6-7) to his firm, the House of Bardi. Here it can be understood how someone would try to go about the journey. He approximates that it may take two-hundred eighty days, based on supposed number of days between certain towns stretching from Tana to Gamalec, the capital of Cathay. He provides helpful tips to merchants such as let their beard grow out, get a good translator, bring enough food to last until the first stop, and what they will have to pay for their goods. He lets them know that the route is perfectly safe and that they ought to bring a translator, two man-servants, the number of animals to carry a cart that can…
