The human figure is one of the most enduring themes in the visual arts. The statement of figure in art changes as human needs and artist appearance developed (1). Early figure pictures only served very little purpose such as communication. The figure of art hugely developed after the invention of the camera as it captures the true emotion the figure had to offer. This dramatic change made the figure of art very worthy and creative (2). The context of images has changed of many years as artists are finding news to improve there pieces and learning new techniques which means there is more variety of images such as; paintings, sculptures, drawing and loads more (3). Cheery Hood creates the most emotional, touching and beautiful artworks, which are just stunning to the naked eye. One of her artworks, Ben Quilty that is a painting of an Australian named Simon Tedeschi pianist hugely became famous when it won Cherry the Archibald Prize in 2002. ‘He looked fantastic’, says Hood. ‘I was talking with him and he has this really interesting expression and so much character in his face. I hadn’t seen anybody I wanted to paint who’d be appropriate for the Archibald and I thought he’d be perfect’ (4). Cherry soon found herself drawing this masterpiece and Hood took around 50 photographs of him in different poses and different lights. The watercolour and varnish flowed easy on the canvas for Cherry, she states, ‘he’s so true to the type of face I like to paint (4). The painting, Ben Quilty shows artist use of dark colours that ease down his body giving the painting effect and meaning.
