Even when this passed, groups like Ashcan School came into creation. The inspiration and examples of the lives during the Gilded Age. The time of 1886, when the art world was introduced to the French Impressionism, this changed the way American artists captured the world on Canvas. Instead of creating illusionistic spaces as previous artists would do, impressionists searched to create impressions of life. This art movement created unique brush strokes that were small and thin. This created a more accurate depiction of better depiction of light and the qualities of light. At the time, this went against the rules of academic painting. As art became more and more of expression, this is what the Ashcan School were trying to convey. More emotion, freedom, and truth in the artwork they were creating. What the goal was to display to society, was the truth. The wealthy may view life as one side, the goal was to create the darker sides of life in which it can speak and relate to people. Create empathy in order to create a better society. Artistry for the Ashcan School was in creation of truth and liberty to society. As individuals, we are filled with emotions and struggles. Each individual is what creates a society. From history, when society goes through change, art follows with it. Art is an expressive platform for those who form a society.
