Beneatha deals with many circumstances in A Raisin in the Sun. These situations shaped who she is towards the end of the story. She is known to be self-centered and kind of obnoxious towards the beginning, only to find out that her character alters closer to the end. This shapes her character to be highly disciplined, and knowledgeable. As she deals with not only her father’s death, but two boys who fancy her, and the loss of financial money because of her brother, she wants to pursue the career of a doctor. But, since her brother, Walter, lost the money, she can’t deal with the stress any longer; wanting to give up on her future. The end of the story fixes the problems for her and lets her realize who she really is. “Mama, Asagai asked me to marry him today and go to Africa-” (Golding 576) This sentence shows how her life is all planned out ahead of her. Every bad situation turned out for the good. Beneatha experienced the durable life behind her. She no longer lives in the past. After Walter decides that his culture is more important than money, “We don't want to make no trouble for nobody or fight no causes, and we will try to be good neighbors. And that's all we got to say about that.” (Golding 575) Beneatha learns to love him again, and accepts his mistakes. Afterall, he is her brother. She has to learn to love him again
