Introduction
Embryonic modification is the science involving manipulation of human embryos to select ideal traits among society. It is a widely spreading topic and holds some of the world’s greatest controversial issues. Gattaca is a film that displays a world of this controversy where children are sculpted in a laboratory. The idea that parents can walk into a medical facility to pick your child’s sex, phenotypes, and overall makeup is both thrilling and terrifying depending on one’s beliefs. Each person chooses their side based on individual principles and judgements. It is important to determine the possibility of one day having to choose to modify your next …show more content…
Being able to choose children that will become successful adults will allow society to become a well-oiled system. Society would grow in proficiency. The medical field of society would spend less money on genetic diseases such as cystic fibrosis and immunodeficiency disorders. This would allow advancement in society health and wellness. People would have greater education as selections could be made for higher intelligence quotients. Economic growth would increase and crime would decrease because addictive susceptibility, such as alcoholism, would be discriminated against. Society norms would become more prevalent allowing unity within a nation. Individuals would benefit greatly from this modification in many aspects of life. Individuals would be selected to have a high capacity for success thus allowing individuals more success. Both the individual and society would reap great benefits in a world of embryonic …show more content…
People have dreamt of a world that was free of disorders and disease. As time progresses, science advances. Preimplantation diagnosis and in vitro fertilization can be advanced to allow selection against diseases and disorders to allow optimal survival of offspring. The main reason these procedures are formulated and advanced is to eradicate unwanted conditions and rid society and individuals of negative effects that cause hardship and suffering throughout life.
Technology Process
Mice are already being experimented on in order to modify genetic expression. As seen in the Cre recombinase paper by Paul S. Danielian and associates, mice show that Cre recombinase is inducible in response to tamoxifen. Cre recombinase is used to carry out deletions, insertions, and inversions. This technique can allow scientist to advance by manipulating studies that further repression and expression of genes. These studies can then undergo more extensive animal trials to work up to introduction to human clinical
