Benefits of Database Marketing
Database marketing is the technique of gathering all the information available about customer, leads and prospects into a central database and using that information to drive all marketing efforts. The information is stored in a marketing database and can be used at both the strategic and tactical levels to drive targeted marketing efforts. (www.itsallgoodwebdesign.com/html/database_marketing.html). A database is a collection of data arranged for computer retrieval. Marketing can defined as "performance of activities that seek to accomplish an organization's objectives by anticipating customer or client needs and directing a flow of need satisfying goods and services from producer to customer. A marketing database is described as a collection of data, such as customer name, addresses and etc. In addition, database marketing can define as "gathering, saving and using the maximum amount of useful knowledge about customer and prospects". (Denise, Geoffrey, Dawn and Linda, 1997).

There are a lot of benefits that can be sought using database which can measure the value of their individual customers, send targeted promotion to any segment of their customer and prospect lists, track promotion efforts, measure responses, purchase and the return on investment for every dollar spent on their promotional efforts and etc. For example, your clothing store is going to have sale on children's clothing. Rather than mail a postcard to the whole customer list, you mail the postcard only to customers who have purchased children's clothing in the past. The result of that targeting effort will be reduced marketing costs and increased return on your investment. (www.itsallgoodwebdesign.com/html/database_marketing.html).

The benefit of the database marketing to the firm is the firm can easily build up a customer loyalty by using it. For example, perhaps the best known database success story is American Airlines Advantage Club which was the pioneer in airline loyalty programs. The

The main benefits and opportunities of using the above are as follows. When you have a customer’s information you can work out what they might like. With this information you can send them relevant product information and special offers instead of sending everyone the same e-mails which they might get sick of and completely disregard or even choose a different business. Using the information correctly will build a relationship with the customer which in turn will build customer loyalty which is a very important benefit considering the amount of competition. Amazon is good example of a business using customer information correctly and individualisation for customer relations. They build relationships with customers by monitoring and collecting a customer’s purchase history and sending out personalised advertisements via e-mail, social media and as soon as a customer logs in tin the website. This makes it more personal.…

Database Marketing. Investing about $1M in this area of the company’s marketing strategy will hone in on the customer relationship management strategy that separates Harrah’s from competitors. Also, database marketing within Harrah’s has proved to be profitable. Once Loveman launched the Total Gold program and began DBM in 1998, Harrah’s net income more than doubled in 1999, increasing from $102,024 to $208,470, while the increase from the previous year was significantly smaller: an increase from $99,388 in 1997 to the $102,024 in 1998 (Exhibit 1). The investment in expanding DBM will also allow Harrah’s to be more effective in customer investments. With even more detailed customer profiles on hand, Harrah’s will be able to analyze profitability and efficiency of customer rewards. As the accompanying financial analysis shows, Harrah’s can segment customer types and attach proper customer goals and rewards. This reduces money wasted on ineffective services, justifying the increased investment in DBM (Exhibit 5).…
