The environment and the transition of high school students to independent college students can be an overwhelming power for incoming freshmen in college. “Upon college entry, students gain independence from their family and relative freedom from obligations and commitments to others.” Many of the incoming students tend to feel more independent and free to do things by themselves without help or consent. These students then try their best to fit in with the crowd, it’s human nature to want to feel accepted in any way. Unfortunately many of the students get the wrong kind of attention. If the drinking age was to rise there would be less problems with underage drinking. There would also be less drinking and driving accidents. Most importantly there would be less misuse of alcohol with college aged students. Raising the drinking age can really help improve the percentage of college aged students who are caught drinking and driving or that cause terrible accidents that can result with their death or passenger’s death. It can also bring back some peace to worried parents that stay up all night waiting and hoping their child can come home.
