Everyone faces a failure within their life that affects them in either a positive or negative way. Some people use it as an excuse; on the other hand, some people learn from the failure and use it as motivation. I endured a failure when I didn’t make the Varsity cheerleading team at Shiloh. I went through many emotions and consequences; however, the failure benefitted me in a variety of ways. Towards the end of my ninth grade year, I saw signs announcing tryouts for the Shiloh High School cheerleading team. I decided to try out because, it seemed like it would be an exciting thing to do and a good way to make friends. I was very nervous during tryouts because, there were some girls that could tumble and perform stunts better than I could. Also, majority of the girls that were trying out were Shiloh cheerleaders for three or more years and they were well known by the coaches. On the other hand, I’ve only cheered for one year at a school other than Shiloh. Having knowledge of these things caused me to lose confidence and weaken my ability to do my best. At the end of the week, the coaches posted the results on the school website and fortunately I made the Varsity cheerleading team.
Making the Varsity cheerleading team made me very excited for the upcoming football season. When the season started my teammates and I instantly gained a strong bond. We would always play around at the football games and practice, however, we began to play too much and our coach felt as though we weren’t taking things seriously. Eventually, our coach decided that we should have a consequence for the way we’ve been acting, so she emailed all of the parents and announced that there will be another tryout for basketball season. Also, she said that for tryouts she will not be as lenient as before because, she felt as though we’ve taken advantage of her leniency.
