Hostile sexism “the condemnation of women with negative instead of positive stereotypes and the use of threats and violence to enforce women’s subservience to men” (p. 150). A great example is social media today and a lock at a couple of platforms, those being Instagram and YouTube. Looking at a gaming creator (provides content to YouTube) she will probably find that in every one of her videos that there will be a derogatory statement. Some find it funny and others strongly believe that they are in the right demeaning her as a woman. That her opinions are not valid and to keep her mouth shut about gaming as gaming is a man’s activity. People are openly hostile with her seeing that she is not a “gamer” and invalidating all her achievements and devaluing her as a person. She is more likely to get promotion based on her appearance than her skills, when it is based off her skill she will find it harder to get promotion or
