Benjamin Franklin Means To Me

“They who can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.” Benjamin Franklin, Memoirs of the life & writings of Benjamin Franklin.What this quote from Benjamin Franklin means to me if you have to work under the King for safety you should just go back to England.At the time Benjamin Franklin said this the colonist had just came over to the Americas and some of the colonist wanted to the new colonies to be recognize as their own land not under the rule of England because they had no representation in the government and they were still getting taxed heavily.I love the way how some of the great movement leader fought for me and died for me.America has come so far in it’s citizens’ freedom.The people of the past have helped me so much in my freedom.America’s gift to my generation is all the freedoms that were fought for me and my fellow classmates.

Today you are able to marry whoever you want because we have the freedom of biracial marriage.I would have not been born if we did not have the freedom of interracial marriage.Most of my generation has married a different race than what they are.The leaders of today are all multiracial and if we did not have the freedom they would not be here.The leaders of the past were not one pure race like Martin Luther King,Jr and Malcolm X they were both not all black they were mixed with white.In this paragraph I have talked about the freedom of interracial marriage,next I am going to talk about another way freedom is a gift to my generation.

If freedom is not established you will lose control of yourself.I had a close friend named Khaliki he had robbed a guy when he was 12 and got sent to the pen at 14 as a result he ended up killing himself at 15 because he could not handle being in the pen for 4 years.In local jail about 35 percent of prisoners commit suicide.They do so because they cannot cope with the fact that they have lost their freedom.When freedom is stripped away from people will have time to plot.One third of people that been imprisoned get out and then kill someone.People lose control when they lose their freedom.

I feel that freedom is a gift to my generation.I have talked about how interracial marriage is a freedom that is deserved.In addition to this I have also talked about when people get locked up and get sent to the pen and they lose control of themselves.The world needs freedom to work and that's why I think freedom is the gift to my generation.
