When he was 12 years old his brother taught him how to use a printing press which is a skill he would use later in life (“Franklin,Benjamin”). He got in a fight with his brother so he left Philadelphia in 1723 (“Franklin,Benjamin”). Ben went to London to get more education as a printer (“Franklin,Benjamin”). Ben also invented and discovered new things (Cass). He discovered that lightning and static electricity represent the force (Cass). Franklin discovered this by flying a kite with a key on the string during a thunderstorm (Cass). Franklin was chosen to be part of the second continental congress in 1775 (Waldstreicher). He was asked to draft the declaration of independence (Cass). He wrote some of it and he signed it (Cass). Franklin also shared his plan for a government (Waldstreicher). This plan became The Articles of Confederation (Waldstreicher). He went to France during the war to gain an alliance with the French (Waldstreicher). After the battle of Saratoga Franklin convinced the French to make an alliance (Waldstreicher). In 1785 he was the president of the executive council of Pennsylvania and he was chosen to go to the Constitutional convention (Waldstreicher). While there he supported the Great Compromise ( Waldstreicher). He died at the age of 84 on April 17, 1790 (Waldstreicher). He was buried next to his wife and his will was to give Philadelphia and Boston each $5,000 for public works
