Beowulf Death Quotes
The desire of power is the mother of the worst things in the world. Lost honor is the hardest thing for a man to lose, also is the best thing for some people to win. People live just once, so a lot of them want to die with honor. A death like this comes just for a person who lives with a clear conscience, and there is no way for other forms of death, only in clear conscience. In another way the desire to protect people who you love urges to do thoughtless things. May the desire to save your people sometimes is so meaningless in the easy of people. Women always have been the factor about all things in the world, such as bad or best things.
In this topic I will give my opinion about things that pushes Beowulf to say that famous quote ‘’ you

Second death of Beowulf it is not very important because all of us will die, until form of death or the way you die is very important but in the end of all it’s a die, when you stop breathing and heart stop beating. But, first death of Beowulf is the worst death for a man who is born as a good fighter and died fighting.
His words make me think that he is remorseful, and when you are remorseful of course you did something. All these things that are mentioned such as: Desire for power, lost honor and desire to win honor etc., are very connected and explain very well the life of Beowulf and his quote. Living with a honor and died without it, living with power and losing it year after year, a man without reputation and loss loyalty, I think are enough to say your enemy ‘’ you know why you can't kill me, my friend? 'Cause I died many, many years ago when I was young.
As I said in the beginning, desire for power, this is the main part of this poem in my opinion, because this pushes in other things that are mentioned, it makes you very imaginative, but nothing last forever, even power. The end comes and you wish to improve your mistakes, and a death in battlefield is the smallest thing he could

Beowulf, in the reader’s perspective is a very strong and noble man. As the poem says, “Nor have I seen a mightier man-at-arms on this earth than the one standing here: unless I am mistaken, he is truly noble. There is mere hanger-on in a hero’s armour.” (244-251). He is noble because he knows his possible consequence of fighting but does not fear death. Beowulf…

The society of Beowulf does not believe that grief is the solution to the deaths of their loved ones or leaders. Instead of becoming sad, the people simply get angry and vow to take revenge upon the person who committed the murder, which is usually by killing that person. The solution to their grief is more death. It is only human to grieve so the people in the Beowulf world, including Beowulf himself, are quite inhuman, monstrous even. They fight death with more death, the punish by following the system of eye for an eye. King Hrethal represents humanity in this past society. He represents the good traits in humans while the rest of the characters represent the bad. While Beowulf’s is portrayed as humble and heroic, there…

Foster explains how in order to keep the plot flowing people must die instead of the hero. “The plot needs something to happen in order to move forward, so someone must be sacrificed. That ‘someone’ is rarely the protagonist” (Foster 84). This quote shows how someone must be sacrificed in order to continue the plot. In Beowulf there is a good example of this. When Aeschere is killed Beowulf says, “Tis better for a man to avenge his friends death than to spend his days lamenting.” This quote leads to Beowulf’s next quest, which is to kill Grendel’s mother. Without the death of Aeschere the plot would be stuck with no flow to Beowulf’s next quest. This shows how Beowulf can be classified as a hero in literature. Lastly, Beowulf is a hero because he was never afraid to die for the purpose of his quest, multiple times he said he was either to die or achieve his…

Beowulf was very boastful of himself to others. This characteristic was shown to the reader by “-have watch me rise from the darkness of was, dripping with my enemies blood. I drove five great giants into chains, chased all of that race from the earth. I swam In the Blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, and killing them one by one; death was my errand and the fate they had earned.” (152-157) Beowulf loves the attention that his “mighty” strength gave him. When people mourned over Beowulfs’ death, the author let us know he was well like by the people for example: “-crying that no better king had ever lived, no prince so mild, no man so open to his people so deserving of…

Starting with his introductory boast, Beowulf states that he “swam in the blackness of night, hunting monsters out of the ocean, and killing them one by one; death was my errand and the fate they had earned.” Every time he destroyed the enemy, he became someone that was admirable and honorable to his home people and to his king. He also believes that his “lord Higlac might think less of me if I let my sword go where my feet were afraid to, if I hid behind some broaden linden shield: my hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster,” which shows that he’d rather have the risk of dying than have the amour that might save his life in order to maintain honor with his king.…

    Beowulf Foolishness

After he had fought in many battles and saved the Danes from Grendel and Grendel's mother he was still not content. He battled the dragon, which was his greatest accomplishment, and proof of his courage and sheer heroism. Although it can be interpreted as a proof of courage, one could also look at it as foolishness, a man's selfish desire to gain glory, even after he has been saturated with it. However, the Anglo-Saxon concept of selfishness was far less abstruse than our own. Their idea of generosity was helping friends and allies, especially in form of gifts for chivalric acts. He did slay the dragon and Grendel partially because he wanted to protect the Danes and his own people from these two atrocities, but he was also motivated by a desire for glory. Beowulf himself was apathetic to the notion of death, he stated it many times throughout the poem, a fine example is his speech prior to fighting Grendel. However, he is obsessed with his legacy and his name, which is more important than life itself to him and the other Anglo-Saxons. For example, the slave in Beowulf's expedition to slay the dragon is not even in the headcount due to his lineage and…

“The legacy of heroes is the memory of a great name and the inheritance of a great example” (Benjamin Disraeli). In this quote Mr. Disraeli is saying a hero is anyone who will be remembered for the dignified examples they set for others. The epic poem of Beowulf, rewritten in English by Seamus Heaney, is a grade-A caliber source of how people viewed a “hero’ back in Anglo-Saxon times. The Geat hero, Beowulf, leads his people through his examples of fearlessness and pure strength. These are some of the qualities they believe makes a true hero. Today, for the most part, we view are heroes in a somewhat different light. In both modern times and Anglo-Saxon times society has places significant stress on the one unifying truth that forms a hero,…

The first of his three major battles was Grendel, a beast who ventured into Heorot (the Danish mead hall) and swept up all the drunken men for a feast. Hearing of this monster Beowulf set sail from Sweden to Denmark to face Grendel. Before the battle he and his men only had one drink to ensure they had their wits about them. Then later in the night they lay waiting for the beast to appear acting as if they were drunk and unconscious. Grendel burst through the large metal doors. The stench of so many of the dead choking the air, looks around and finds his first target, one of Beowulf’s men. He snatches him up, bites his head off and proceeds to drink him like a juicy-juice before consuming him whole. His next victim wouldn’t be taken so easily though. The foolish Grendel grabs at Beowulf who is waiting patiently for the beast. Beowulf then grabs onto Grendel’s arm and proceeds to tear it clean off at the shoulder. Scared Grendel runs with his tail between his legs back to the hellish pit he calls home where he dies before his own mother.…

Beowulf is a poem that exploits both loyalty and honor within its characters. When Beowulf finally passes, and Wilgaf reprimands the men who were supposed to assist them in defeating the dragon, he shows what seperates his king from regular men. He is truly a hero because he never failed his people, and he was always determined to fulfill his duty. In his old age he was more than willing to go battle the dragon, he does what he has to, but never out of self interest only for the protection and the good of his others. The basic definition of a hero in literature is exemplified by the character of Beowulf, and his death only magnifies the view on him as so. As he talks about his accomplishments and about how he serviced his the Danes, you notice that Beowulf's passing is calm and graceful. The dragon had ended his life in such a violent way, but he never seemed to be focused on the pain. The author tells of the blood coming from his neck like rain, but upon his final moments Beowulf doesn't comment on it. I don't believe the death was depicted to be graceful in order to be seen as a reward for being a hero, but to show content, and to protest the theme of heroism by showcasing the life of a hero as fulfilling on a personal level. Many…
