any explanation of what caused the disappearances. What is known is that there are many Theories that support the science behind it and the supernatural. The Triangle is located near Florida and extends east to a point through the Bahamas and then back again. To see this on a map it would be the shape of a triangle, hence getting the name the Bermuda Triangle. In this research essay the point argued is that the scientific theories behind the Bermuda triangle are far more plausible that theories of the super Natural. A scientific theory of the loss of ships and planes is the rough and unexpected weather conditions in the Bermuda triangle. In the world some of the biggest storms pass right through the Bermuda triangle. The article Top 10 Explanations for the Bermuda triangle at Toptenz.net explains the power of a storm in the Triangle. “Caribbean-Atlantic storms yield unpredictable weather and water spouts within the area of the Bermuda triangle making weather and rough waves one of the biggest causes of disappearances”(Jaro). If a plane or ship was anywhere near this storm they most likely would be taken out. Also many people would have a hard time discovering where a plane or ship disappeared to because them storm could wash a craft miles away from where they should have been located. This article is not the only one supporting the theory of the loss of planes and ships lost, due to storms. At the web site www.binscorner.com an article is written called Bermuda Triangle- Myth or Reality. The quote here reads, “The area is subject to violent and unexpected storms and weather changes. These short but intense storms can build up quickly and dissipate quickly and go undetected by satellite surveillance” ( Bermuda, 2). This fact of unexpected weather patterns gives some support to the fact of the disappearances. If a ship goes in and is hit by a sudden storm that was undetected on the satellites, it will leave a ship sunken without any evidence of why it went down . The theory of storms causing ships and planes to go down is far more likely then the super Natural.
There are two main supernatural theories behind the Bermuda Triangle.
The first theory is that of the supposed Lost city of Atlantis, and the power it has to cause navigational instruments to go haywire. Also to go along with the story of Atlantis supposedly there are laser beams underwater that, in order to protect Atlantis, these laser beams shoot out a laser beam to protect the city. In the book The Bermuda Triangle the author Charles Berlitz explains that even if lasers shot planes and ships out of the sky how would they still work even after spending thousands of years underwater (Berlitz,20). Berlitz has a very good point that the theory of laser beams shooting planes and ships down could not work. Hypothetically even if the lasers lasted all these years, all of the planes and ships show no damage from laser beams. If there are no laser beams but still some believe Atlantis is still there, no one has discovered anything underwater. The second supernatural theory is that of UFO’s taking aircrafts and ships. Charles Berlitz writes “ The UFO’s whatever they are seem to create a temporary magnetic vortex, and an ionization pattern that can cause ships and planes to disappear” ( Berlitz, 240). This theory seems to be very unlikely. If ships were being taken by UFO’s wouldn't all over the world stuff would happen like this. There are very few UFO accounts so there is not very much data to support this Theory. These two supernatural Theories are very
unlikely.
There are two other theories that have some evidence but don't occur that much. In many places in the ocean an underwater earth quake can occur. In the Article The Bermuda Triangle- Myth or Reality reads, “ Other possible environmental effects include underwater earthquakes, as scientists have found a great deal of seismic activity in the area” (Bermuda, 2). This theory does not support the disappearance of planes but could give evidences to the disappearances of ships. The power of an underwater earth quake causes for a tsunami, and if there is a Tsunami a ship really has no chance of staying afloat. Another scientific idea behind the Triangle is a rare event called water spout, a tornado made from water. In the book, The Bermuda triangle, Berlitz writes, “ A more likely doom for small and even larger boats in the area would be tidal waves, or even waterspouts, the seagoing tornadoes which occur at certain seasons and which raise a vast funnel of water to a great height in the sky” (Berlitz, 109) A water spout does not occur on a daily basis but if the weather conditions are correct one of the spouts could take out a ship or even a low flying plane. This theory is defiantly one of the more probable reasons of the strange disappearances. Both under water earthquakes and water spouts are very probable theories for the mysterious loss of both planes and ships.
The last theory is that man causes for the disappearances. Many speculate that some corporation or government has an under water Tesla Based Technology underwater. The Article The weather in the Triangle states, “ This hypothetical system would be capable of recharging speculated secret electric powered submarine classes, and would definitely provide enough interference to scramble signals airplanes that boats rely on” ( Weather ,5). In this case of their being a made underwater power source, a craft could get lost out on the ocean. This theory does support how planes are found way out from where they should be but does not give evidence of them gone missing. One could speculate that the loss and destruction of ships is from a combination of different events occurring, but there is also one more theory that does bring the super natural and Reality together. In the bermuda triangle there is a navel base called AUTEC ( Atlantic undersea test and Evolution Center). In the same article The Weather in the Triangle gives the theory of how the supernatural and this base are connected. The article explains AUTEC is a navy test base for subs in the bermuda triangle. The article quotes the Science channel that says “A handful of theories insist that our government has been working with extraterrestrials and that AUTEC is actually a testing ground for reverse engineered alien technology. (Top ,6). This theory really ties a lot of things together. If some people thought UFO’s were taking people then what they really could just be seeing is the government taking people driving the downed UFO’s. This would open up the question though of why the government would do something like that? It seems the closer you get to solving the mystery you just discover my mysteries. The reader can now see that people causing the disappearances could be a likely theory. Now from knowing the different theories there are about the disappearances within the Bermuda triangle the reader can see that scientific reasoning is far more probable then the supernatural. It is said that “Most rational explanations for the incidents in the Bermuda triangle including the explanations given by the U.S. navy and coast guard, include human error and environmental effects” ( Bermuda, 2). From this is very clear that the super natural is not involved. Another fact is that the ocean can be a dangerous place. A place very similar to the Bermuda Triangle is the devils sea. An area considered by Charles Berlitz to be more treacherous then the Bermuda triangle. (Berlitz, 121). So from this there are just dangerous spots on the sea. A explanation of the supernatural does not nearly as much evidence as a scientific theory does. The Bermuda triangle has not have any theory proven fully but hopefully now the reader can better see that whatever the reason for the disappearances there is a science behind it.
