The first rifle barrels appeared during the sixteenth century. During the sixteenth century, the rifle barrels were the best air rifles at the time, and have more accuracy than the smooth barrel. During that time, the rifle barrel also traveled a longer distance that the smooth barrel. For this reason, the rifle barrels started to get more popular.

Even, if the rifle was still used in the battlefields, the riffles started to become smaller because it was important to be able to control the rifles better.
During the eighteenth century, Germanic states enlisted game hunters, and this is where rifles were used to hunt animals. It’s during this time, that they started to develop the long rifles that we know today. These long rifles were really accurate and could shoot up to 200 yards. This was far more than the more traditional weapons during that time.
After the civil war
Rifles was improved until after the civil war. The 1873 rifle model was used during the Indian Wars. This was between 1869 –1878. Then, the Krag-Jorgensen rifle replaced the 1873 model rifle in 1892. They started to upgrade and modernize the cartridges, loading system and the general design.
During the 1880s they made the power of the bullet projection a lot more. During 1903, the 1903 riffle model became the standard rifle model that was the best air rifle on the market during that time. After this model was released, they invented the semi-automatic M1 Garland rifle and this weapon was used until 1957.
