The Best and Worst of My Boss
Everyone by nature has good and bad qualities. A Boss is no exception to this, therefore, the best boss I've ever had is also in some ways the worst.

I currently work alone with my boss and the owner of Heath Sign Company in Athens, Pennsylvania making vinyl and painted signs and graphics. One thing that makes a good boss is respect. My boss has many of the same values and ambitions as myself which makes it very easy for me to respect and admire him. One day during the first week I worked with my boss I was feeling frustrated with my progress in learning the job. In order to break the tension my boss got up and as he left the room he announced "Time to go poop!" As time went on, once in a long while he may offer me a beer after we both close up shop as another way to relax and enjoy a job well done. Interpersonal relations also make and undeniable impact on the quality and effectiveness of a boss. Fortunately Kevin Heath (my boss) has a great personality and is respectful, insightful, and considerate making him extremely easy to work with. It is also very important for a boss to communicate well. My boss is very clear in how he communicates which has made it easy for me to learn quickly and excel in work related skills. Due to both communication and respect I am able to accept criticism from my boss because of the manner in which he does it. Again, this allows for us as a company to be efficient and effective in how we work and grow. All of these things and many more make for not only the best boss I've had, but also a very successful business.

As with most people there are, however, some things that make Kevin a bad boss. The wages of a job are very important in every job if not for some people the most important part. My boss doesn't offer the pay that I am worth. This shows that either he can't financially afford it or he doesn't see the value in me as an employee and the quality of my work. One other thing that makes a bad boss is being inconsistent. My boss

A good leader must demonstrate the qualities that they want to see in their employees. For example at organizations like Starbucks and McDonalds the order takers are always friendly and greet you with a smile. This is a part of their customer focus, so a leader must be able to demonstrate these same qualities. If you saw your leader being rude or mean to customers yet they are always telling you to be nice this would be seen as a contradiction. Then you as the employee could lose respect for the leader because they are not effectively demonstrating what they want to be done. An effective leader must be able to lead by…

I have known him for 20 years. He has always considered me a part of his family. This person truly is one of “the great ones”. This man is the kind of person that always looks for an opportunity to encourage the best to shine out of people. He puts energy and action into his beliefs and it shows in every area of his life. My life has dramatically changed since I began working with him. He sees the things I cannot see in myself. He sees something great and takes every opportunity to pass on the vision to me. My boss is my friend, peer and a father figure in many ways. How true it is that when people are in the presence of someone great, they will feel great…

Per Abrashoff, it is a mistake to use “command and control” leadership style to become a good leader. To be a good leader it is very important for a leader to be approachable and carefully listen to his subordinates’ idea and opinion, regardless of who they are, and follow them if needed. In addition, a good leader provides his people with clear vision and direction, and motivates them by making them realize their roles and responsibility are important to the team as a whole, instead of totally commanding and controlling them.…

I would add qualities of a good leader such as flexibility. A good manager should be flexible so as to accommodate the many changes he might come across in course of management. These may include a change in the work environment. I do still agree with the poor qualities originally identified. There are managers who portray very poor management qualities as identified originally. Some of the poor qualities of a leader identified include failure to communicate, dictatorship, disrespect as well as discrimination amongst employees. A poor manager will display qualities of poor management by showing discriminating among his employees. This means that the manager favours some of the employees. The discrimination brings about division in the organization hence no good team work (Jillyan,…

The way a company can truly be great is by utilizing a level 5 leader who exemplifies the qualities that Jim Collins describes in his book, Good to Great. A leader is at his or her best when they are able to challenge the workers in the company and to inspire them by the way they lead. What is different about the level 5 leader that Collins describes is in the paradox of it all. A leader is quiet, laid back, almost to the point of being considered shy yet at the same time there is this incredible drive to be the best not for the sake of oneself but because that is what is best for the company. The leader is put in that position of the company to shake things up and change the company…

The judicial courts is one of the most difficult undertaking out of all the judicial system. Even though law enforcement officers apprehend offenders, it is still up to the prosecutors to retrieve and analyze all evidence from the scene of the crime that the officers collected, so that they can compile a case against the defendant. Then there is the defense also gathering information to make a case to prove the defendant is innocent. Now if I was the boss for the day I would make some changes to help make both sides more successful.…

During my career in the healthcare field, I have worked alongside some great managers. I also had my share of a poor manager. I learned from my past experiences, and I know what traits to have in the future as manager. I believe there are four qualities a person should have to be an excellent manager. First, a manager should have a good attitude. Attitude and energy set the tone for the day. A great manager knows when to hold certain situations lightly and when to drive certain situations with a high degree of urgency. Second, manager should have the maturity; they must be able to control their emotions. They know that if they feel frustrated, it is best to go for a walk. They don’t overreact and lose they're cool in the office. The third quality manager must be flexible. Flexible manager knows it’s all about the employees. They know that each employee is different, and they should spend time getting to know each employee on their team. The last quality is making sure all employees are accountable for their action and…

There are many types of negative leadership behaviors within the workplace. For example, a boss can have bad communication skills, be an authoritarian, lousy listener, use foul language, a Mr. Know it all, etc. I’ve had the pleasure of working with great leaders that I’ve learned a lot from but also worked with leaders that possessed many of the negative traits as well. It’s critical to an organizations success that leaders be properly trained to ensure that the organization as a whole doesn’t get a bad reputation. Many…

When examing what makes a good leader you can ask a very simple question, what I believe to be a very important factor, which is, do they have passion in what they do? Leaders in business today have to have a passion for what they do in order to make a successful and influential leader. The success of any company is only as great as the employees on the forefront make it. “Transformational leadership is a form of leadership that occurs when leaders ‘broaden and elevate the interests of their employees, when they generate awareness and acceptance of the purposes and the mission of the group and when they stir their employees to look beyond their own self-interest for the good of the group” (Bass, 1990).…

Honesty is such a huge thing when it comes to any workplace. If you cant be honest with your company then you don't deserve to have a job. When looking for employees, employers look for an honest person. Suppose Tim works for a convenience store. Tim's boss asks him to watch over the store for a few hours while he runs some errands. In this scenario, Tim is the employee (follower) and his boss is the employer (leader). Tim's boss expects TIm to be an honest employee and to make good decisions while hes out. If TIm's boss didn't think he was an honest eployee, he wouldn't have left him with the store by himself. So say Tim was in a money crisis. If TIm is an effective follower, he will just earn his mone and do what is right. But, if TIm is not an effective follower, his first move is going to be to steal the money that he needs and when his boss gets back, just asct like nothing happened.…
