There are various management styles, and to be an excellent manager it’s important to know different management styles. As a leader, a person must find one that fits their personality. Managers have to perform many roles in an organization and how they handle various situations will depend on their style of management. A management style is an overall method of leadership used by a manager. What do I define as management? I personally believe that management is managers or directors who make decisions based on the company needs. According to "Dictionary" (n.d.), Management “the act or skill of controlling and making decisions about a business,

During my career in the healthcare field, I have worked alongside some great managers. I also had my share of a poor manager. I learned from my past experiences, and I know what traits to have in the future as manager. I believe there are four qualities a person should have to be an excellent manager. First, a manager should have a good attitude. Attitude and energy set the tone for the day. A great manager knows when to hold certain situations lightly and when to drive certain situations with a high degree of urgency. Second, manager should have the maturity; they must be able to control their emotions. They know that if they feel frustrated, it is best to go for a walk. They don’t overreact and lose they're cool in the office. The third quality manager must be flexible. Flexible manager knows it’s all about the employees. They know that each employee is different, and they should spend time getting to know each employee on their team. The last quality is making sure all employees are accountable for their action and …show more content…
I find the scores very surprising. According to "Mind Tools" (n.d.), “You're on your way to becoming an excellent manager. You're doing some things well, and these are likely the things you feel comfortable. Now it's time to work on the skills that you've been avoiding. Focus on the areas where your score is little, and figure out what you can do to make the improvements you need.” The "Mind Tools" (n.d.) website, I scored low on Problem Solving and Decision making. I got and 8 of 10, stating that I not comfortable in this area. I will take this information and work on building my Problem-solving and Decision making skills. However, I did score high motivating people. I believe people confidence and improve their job

I believe a manager should possess 3 basic traits. They are self-awareness, curiosity and independency. Let me elaborate more on this. First and foremost, in order to manage others one must first be able to understand oneself and manage themselves. To understand oneself one must be self-aware. They must know what biases they have so when it comes time to make decisions, they can make a clear concise bias free decision. Also when one is self-aware, they can keep their emotions and feelings out of the equation when deciding. Secondly, a manager should be someone who is curious because curious people will not only look at the surface but also dig deeper into the situation to find out what is actually happening. After looking at a situation from different angles, then they can try new approaches to find out if the real deal is actually what they forecast. Lastly, a manager has to be independent because they are the one who is making the crucial decisions. Many times a manager will listen to others for opinions but the final decision has to have gone through critical thinking and be made solely on the manager’s behalf.…

I would define management as the coordinating efforts of a team of people to accomplish goals. These goals are accomplished through leading, planning, directing and organizing every aspect of the business. Management positions hold a great deal of power and responsibility which in many cases are important factors in accessing a business’s current and future financial standing.…

All of these characteristics add value for an effective manager. The first one is vision; this helps because everyone starts something with a view of what it will become. This will also help motivate other by knowing as your company grows it will improve and be something great because, the whole team has worked together. You need a vision so you have a goal/ something to work towards. A manager needs to be efficient, because they have many responsibilities that need to be fulfilled and people depending on them. They need to be organized also because, they have so many responsibilities and so little time. Managers need to control their company, if you have a group of regular employees telling you what to do confusion starts, because there is not a designated person to go to for issues. So it is safe to say, you should know your role. A manager needs to have the ability to plan, everything might come at you and you will have to know what to do. Say you have a restaurant; you would have to plan on ‘chilly’ more in winter months than you would at other times of the year. When a manager you need to have a positive attitude, you cannot expect your employee to have a positive attitude when you don’t have one. Besides that it’s good for business, people are not going to want to go somewhere that has snotty service. Sense perspective is something a manager should have; respect is a very important quality. More often than not if your manager shows respect to you, it will catch on. A manager should want to gain their employees trust. I know at my first…

I would add qualities of a good leader such as flexibility. A good manager should be flexible so as to accommodate the many changes he might come across in course of management. These may include a change in the work environment. I do still agree with the poor qualities originally identified. There are managers who portray very poor management qualities as identified originally. Some of the poor qualities of a leader identified include failure to communicate, dictatorship, disrespect as well as discrimination amongst employees. A poor manager will display qualities of poor management by showing discriminating among his employees. This means that the manager favours some of the employees. The discrimination brings about division in the organization hence no good team work (Jillyan,…

Management styles are as diverse as the personalities of the people who practice them, and the companies who employ these managers. Although it is generally not a good idea to be too strict or too lax, the success of a range of management styles will ultimately depend on the manager's overall rapport with his employees as well as whether his style is compatible with the culture of the company. Bad management styles can deliver an increase in work pressure; lack of motivation, bad communication and conflict within the working environment where as adopting a good style can increase productivity, increase motivation and give staff drive.…

Stewart (1967) describes a manager as someone who gets things done with the aid of people and other resources. Adding to this definition, a manager to me is someone who takes charge of a task and leads people towards a successful outcome. Throughout the years a number of theorists have put together a framework of management styles and before getting into the main styles within my organisation an understanding of them are important to gain the impact it has on the teams working in the company.…

What is management? According to Kinicki Williams textbook “Management, management is defined as the pursuit of organizational goals efficiently and effectively by integrating the work of people through planning, organizing, leading, and controlling the organization resources (Ch. 1, pg. 5 Management: A practical introduction). I believe in order to be an effective manager you must be a positive, goal orient, organized individual. In a simple definition management is the person or persons who control or direct a business or other enterprise. However, management is much larger than just one person or small group of people. Management is also the practice of handling, supervision, direction, and control (www.dictionary.com). It is much larger than one person, or even a small group of people; management is everywhere. We use management in all aspects of our daily lives, whether it is organizing an event, or handling a purchase order. Management must be arranged through multiple levels in order to be successful, beginning with micro management, eventually its way up the ladder to macro management. Micro and macro components are the core make up of every business, each possessing different qualities and characteristics that form the overall building blocks to success.…
