What worked at one point may not work any longer, so we must continuously evolve and try to find new ways of teaching to keep up with the ever growing expectations of the state and/or governments requirements on education. I don’t think it should be left out of the curriculum at all . I enjoy seeing how much education has changed and learning about all of the new technologies being integrated into the classroom, I thoroughly

Taking a peak at a current history lesson taught in a classroom, the common outsider will likely find nothing wrong with its content or presentation. They hear many famous names and key dates regarding events of the past and do not bat an eye because they learned history in the same way. On the other hand, if a historian walked into the same classroom, he or she would be incredibly disappointed because students are not learning how to practice history. Granted, the same historian likely learned about history in a similar way at one point or another during his or her educational career, but that was in the past and this is the current day. As science, technology, and other subjects advance, why does the general public decide to allow history…

History books today are flooded with pointless tasks for memorization, which is just an easy fix to get students a good grade on a test, without them actually retaining the information in the chapter. Not being properly educated on past events gives the future more opportunity for mistakes, considering they will not be able to compare past and present problems in hopes to not make the same mistakes again. It is easy for students to brush off this information because it is taught in such a matter of fact sort of way, not showing any passion, just information does not make a person interested in a subject. When a student can have actual feelings regarding an event, that is when it sticks. When they can really understand what is going on, through real stories and encounters, they have a more thorough understanding of the world and are better prepared to participate in…

The system does not give students the opportunity to think or to make their own opinion on any matter. Friere describes the current system of education as one that turns students into adaptors of situations rather than transformers (9). Sometime the information taught by teachers or the textbook are misleading and due to the system the students take in the information as is presented to them without questioning it. Loewen describe the History field as one that has been totally dominated by textbook which most of them are derived from one another and not from primary sources (5). The history books tend to present optimism and overlook failures in the American history. History is written by the victor, and Americans are not always the victor and yet we have a huge variety of history books. So we overlook the fact that we may have failed in…

George Santayana the spanish essayist once said, “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” History is more than a study of things that has happened in the past it’s more on the decisions we as people make. From the choices, the results we get, and to the possible consequences everyone gets from the decisions they have made. People who learn the history learn an extreme amount of lessons and have a better chance of making better choices just by lessons we learned from the past.…

My approach to teaching is simple, I want to teach my students material that are relevant, applicable and something that they can relate to. According to the video script of this week’s module, the purpose of technology is to enhance learning and engage students (Grand Canyon Univ., 2012). I couldn’t agree with this more, anything that is added to the curriculum should only be added to enrich it. I would use technology to reinforce what is being taught in class, as well as an outlet which students can begin to engage themselves in self-discovery. My mission is to create lifelong learners, and technology definitely will assist me in…

While there are some immediate benefits that can be drawn out of these pursuits, there must surely be an overall purpose that unites them; and in fact, there is. Ultimately, history should be studied or taught for the sake of knowing it, and not with any other purpose in mind. While, as I have mentioned, practical benefits may often be a result of these, but doing it in order to obtain the benefits offered will only result in a warped reading of history. Those who color their mind with only thoughts of seeking what will be most useful to them will find the knowledge they obtain will be equally shallow. Their mind will could out information that runs contrary to what they seek, and overstate facts they believe work in their favor.…
