1 Christ – The Deity
Outline
The Third Sign (John 5:1–16)
The setting (John 5:1–5). “Some time later, Jesus went up to Jerusalem for the feast of the Jews. Now there is in Jerusalem near the sheep gate a pool, which in Aramaic is called Bethesda and which is surrounded by five covered colonnades. Here a great number of disabled people used to lie—the blind, the lame, and the paralyzed. For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had. One who was there had been an invalid for thirty-eight years.”
Begins the chapter with the familiar expression meta tauta “after this” lapse of time.

Feast of the Jews – this is the second Passover
(2:13; 5:1; 6:4 and 11:5).
Some say this is not a Passover.

John is writing about a theological theses. John will write very selectively. After this miracle he will skip another 50 weeks.
Deut. 16:16. “Three times a year all your men must appear before the Lord your God at the place he will choose: at the Feast of Unleavened Bread, the Feast of Weeks, and the Feast of Tabernacles. No man should appear before the Lord empty- handed:” Every male must go up for three feasts.
During Passover the population would swell to well over
1 million persons.
Pool
Pool today probably is the Bethesda pool but we are not absolutely sure. It was the place were the lambs would be cleaned before sacrifice. Sick people around a dirty pool.
The pool is though to be approximately 20’ x 30’ times two.
The pool had 4 porches and one that
