The mission was to retrieve the Arkenstone and take the treasure back from Smaug (a great dragon). It was strange that Bilbo decided to go on this journey because Bilbo isn't the type to go on adventures and at the beginning he was not very strong or brave. So what drove him to embark on this adventure? I think one reason I think he went was to show that he can be strong and have courage, so he was driven to find himself. Another reason could be that Gandalf said that this adventure was important and he wanted Bilbo’s help, so maybe Bilbo felt he now had to go to not let Gandalf down. The steps he took to reach his goals were, trying new things like singing a song/poem for the first time at the end of the story, or doing scary things like talking to Smaug, and how he wasn't afraid to do the riddle game with Gollum. Bilbo also learned some things from undertaking the adventure. He learned a lot about friendship, courage, the importance of simplicity, and everyone makes mistakes. The story is about an eight year old boy, Ernesto Galarza, who was Mexican-American. He and his mom immigrated to California and Ernesto is now experiencing American School. He has to try to fit in and get used to the American lifestyle/customs. He starts off very nervous and afraid of his new surroundings, questioning a lot of things. He first showed bravery when Miss. Hopley(the principal) appeared very tall and scary to him, stood up, he was scared at first but he realized she was not scary at all and decided he liked her. Another scary thing happened to him when he got sat in the front of the class and shrunk in his seat, he then felt calmed when he realized his teacher was nice. As the story goes, you can see his growth in facing his fears. His goal was to fit the American lifestyle, but also not lose who he is. He overcame a challenge when he achieved saying “butterfly” and everyone was really proud of him. The steps he took were: learning English, getting used to the environment, and learning about the different cultures. He also learned some important lessons. What he learned was he can be an American while also not losing what made him foreign in the first place. He has a bunch of new friends that are just like him and he feels like he fits in now and he’s not embarrassed or nervous
