The pharmacy information system collects, stores and manages information related to drugs and supervises the use of drugs in line with patient care. This involves information processing which means retrieving the information from one file and using it to compare, update, or display information. This System help to reduce the risks involved in drug special consideration and drug interpretation errors.
In line with this, this is a Semi – Expert System, which means the system will automatically recommend another medicine that will help to cure the same illness. This allows the buyer or user to choose which medicine he or she prefers. It also has a Prescription Decision Support System. This involves an electronic prescribing between the physician and the pharmacist. If the physician did not find the accurate medicine of the specific illness of the patient in the hospital’s pharmacy, the physician will try to find another nearest branch which sells the medicine him / her looking for via online. Once the physician found out, the physician will now electronically send the prescription to the pharmacy. From there, the prescription is typically routed through the pharmacy system vendor or the pharmacy’s central corporate server to the chosen pharmacy location. The staffs are alerted to the e – prescription arrival on the pharmacy system’s display screen. Upon claiming of the prescription by the patient, the pharmacy sends an electronic authorization request to the physician for an approval. Authorization sent back to the pharmacy with the unique identifying code. The advantage of it, is to generate legible and complete prescription which will reduce medical errors and improve physician practice and pharmacy efficiency by explanatory pharmacists’ need for clarifications.
