The story takes place a movie theater throughout the whole story.In this short story, we get to experience the segregated tension that was active during those times. The narrator gives us a hint that this might of taken place in the northern region of the United States according to this line “ If this was down South, he thought all I’d have to do is lean over and say ,”Lady, gimme a few of those peanuts,please ma'am,” and she’d pass me the bag and never think of it”(Ellison 123). You feel how out of place the protagonist feels in this place. For the second half of the story, the Bingo Winner moves to the front of the stage where he gets to spin the wheel for a chance to win the final prize. Here is where the story takes a mysterious and strange twist.
Point of View
The story is told in the third person limited omniscient by the narrator. We can come to this conclusion by just reading the beginning of the story where he says “The woman in front of him was eating roasted peanuts that smelled so good that he could barely contain his hunger “ (Ellison 123).The narrator describes how all the characters in the story have an effect on the protagonist. We only get to experience how the protagonist feels because he is the center of this story.

He is the one only who has to take care of his wife who is very ill. The audience feels to very far away from him during the story, physically and figuratively. Because the people see him as less or an experiment and victim to society. When we feel hopeless who do whatever it takes for a chance for our lives to take a turn and the audience sees his sense of desperation. He tries to change people's mind by telling them that he has the power to change the outcome of something; in this case is the wheel of fortune he spins.But we slowly realize that one man by himself can’t change
