Psychodynamic psychologists would emphasize the unconscious mental process that would determine the behavior of the criminal. Looking into the unconscious process will let the psychologist see what determined the thoughts and feelings that caused the actions presented by the person on the news. The psychodynamic psychologist would look at the inner conflict to satisfy one’s self while also satisfying the rules of society. Therefore, the aggressive behavior would be considered urges that overcome the person’s defense against expressing those urges. Lastly, the psychologist would analyze these inner conflicts to access the true problem that is underlying which caused the awful display of actions on the news. For the cognitive psychologist he/she will emphasize how the information that the person has received in their life is not necessarily all that caused the behavior displayed, rather it is the way the person perceived it.
A cognitive psychologist would try to understand why the person perceived the things he/she has learned in such a way that would trigger the destructive response. He/she may suggest that the criminal has always perceived things a certain way therefore their memories are all categorized under this perception which led to the lashing-out of the person on the news. Lastly, the psychologist would examine how the perceptions had effected the decisions made in the moment and any other thoughts surrounding the situation on the news. Therefore, the cognitive psychologist would suggest that the behavior displayed was due to the criminal’s perception of the world around him/her which is what lead to the behavior
