The Effects of Light on Plant Growth
Introduction:
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants use light energy, water, and carbon dioxide to produce food. Plants use the food they make for the growth and for the carrying out other life processes. Sunlight is the natural energy source for photosynthesis. White light form the sun is a mixture of all the colors of the light spectrum: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet. Light can be either absorbed or reflected by substances called pigments. Most plants are green because the pigment chlorophyll reflects green and yellow light and absorbs the other colors of the spectrum.

Problem:
• Which colors of the light spectrum are most important for plant growth?
Hypothesis:
• I believe that if we use the colors red and blue that then the growth of the plants will be greater than if I were to use any other color of the light spectrum.
Materials of the Virtual Lab:
• Colors of the Light spectrum: red, blue, orange, green. Violet, and yellow
• Three types of plants (radish, lettuce, and spinach)
• Ruler
• 6 plant pots with soil
• Calculator to calculate the average height of each of the plants
Procedure:
• My classmates and I clicked the video button to watch the video animation and learn about how light affects photosynthesis.
• Made my hypothesis about which color or colors would affect the plant growth most
• Tested my hypothesis by choosing the different seeds and observing how the plants grow under different light colors
• Choose the type of seed we wanted and clicked the seed packet
• Choose the light color we want to test plan growth
• Started the experiment by clicking the light switch
• Observed the plant growth
• Clicked the ruler to measure the plant growth. Then used a calculator to average the height of the three plants under each color filter and recorded the results in the table.
• Clicked the reset button and

We all learned in elementary school that the suns provide nutrients and components that help plans grow. “As the name implies, photosynthesis is a process that uses light energy to synthesize something.” (Mauseth, 2014) That process is called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is the process where plants use light energy from the sun. If we break the word up photo has the definition of light and synthesis means putting together. It provides the necessary sources of energy that both animals and plants need to survive. There are important factors that help photosynthesis, water, light and carbon dioxide. Throughout this essay we will discuss the equation that is associated with photosynthesis, main energy carrying molecule, reactants and products of light reactions and photosynthesis in the Calvin cycle.…

This experiment was conducted by taking 6 pots containing soil and placing certain amount of seeds, radish or/and wheat seeds, in each pot. A total of 384 seeds were needed for this experiment; 192 for radish and 192 for wheat seeds. The first three sets of pots had a total of 32 seeds in each pot consisting of radish or/and wheat seeds, which represented the low density and the other three sets of pots had a total of 96 seeds in…

Photosynthesis is a chemical process that converts the sunlight into a chemical energy that plants store for later. Without photosynthesis, the world as we know it would not exist. All the plants would die and so would a major food and oxygen source. During Photosynthesis water is sucked up through the roots up the stem and to the leaves. The leaves take in carbon dioxide and begin to absorb sunlight. these things combine to make glucose and oxygen. The plant then uses the glucose and oxygen is expelled through the stomata of the plant as a waste product. In The leaves there are a very special pigment called chlorophyll. Chlorophyll is responsible for the absorption of sunlight. Richard Martin Willstätter is the man responsible for studying these structures.…

Although Cooper was a popular American writer whose books are still dissected in schools and university courses, his prose is very difficult to read due to elaborate descriptions and slow action. Mark Twain tackles these issues (and many more) in his famous essay, Fenimore Cooper’s Literary Offenses, in which he claims that “Cooper has scored 114 offenses against literary art out of a possible 115.”…

For this project we had to experiment to see the effects of blue light on a plants growth. We had to research on light and its effects on photosynthesis. This helped me with my experiment because I had knowledge for what was going on with the plants and light. For this project I and one of my classmates had to conduct a experiment to see the effects of blue light versus white light. For this project we had to grow lentil beans under white and blue light and water and measure them daily. My experimental question was what is the effect of blue light on the height of lentil beans?…

From the graph we can observe that echidna and lizard are the two true ectotherms. Looking back at the graph, we can see that that these two animal’s body temperature has changed very much. The vertical axis of body temperature shows that lizard’s body temperature has risen from low 10 to 30 degree Celsius. And so echidna’s body temperature has risen from mid-30 to mid-40 degree Celsius. They are true ectotherms as they could not have maintained that constant internal body temperature.…

In plants, cells called chloroplasts collect energy from the sun and use water and carbon dioxide (photosynthesis) to make sugars.1 Light energy (called photons) hit single chlorophyll pigments in the cells of the plant leaves. 2 Photoautotrophs is the term used for plants that create energy out of sunlight. Plants that do not use the sun’s energy are called chemoautotrophs.3 For photosynthesis to begin a few conditions must be met; enough water must be available in a plant’s body, there should be direct sunlight on its leave, the leaves are green, and the leaves need to have access to carbon dioxide in the air.4 When the light energy has stimulated enough of the chlorophyll it is brought to a singular part of the chloroplast. The light energy combines with the water molecules, carbon dioxide molecules, and adenosine diphosphate and creates a chemical reaction.5 This chemical reaction produces oxygen and adenosine triphosphate, or ATP.6…

In photosynthesis a plant takes in carbon dioxide, water, and sunlight to produce its food and energy. The sun puts off wavelengths that allow plants to capture photons. To a plant photosynthesis is a process that produces sugars called glucose and fructose then the plant uses the sugars as food. To a human the process recycles carbon dioxide into oxygen for us to breath. The plants surroundings are where it acquires everything it needs for photosynthesis. It absorbs sunlight through its leaves as well as water through its roots. All plants have tiny vents called stoma, which allows gases like CO2 and water to pass through.…
