I stood on the porch with my hands in my pockets. My eyes focused on the two story white house in front of me. Today was my best friend’s Ben’s Birthday and in celebration of it, we were throwing a big surprise party. Ben was turning 18 so it was important we make this night unforgettable for him. I began walking down the brick pavement to the front door, excitement bubbling up inside me. I have been looking forward to this party for weeks. I knocked on the door and in less than 30 seconds the door swung open to reveal Ben’s mother. She was a middle-aged woman with light blonde hair tied back in a tight bun and deep brown eyes in a heart shaped face.
“Hello Mayo! It is good to see you! Please come in, we are just putting the final touches on.”
“Alright, thanks Mrs. Hoffman.” I walked inside and took a look around the newly decorated living room. Blue and Red streamers were hung up along the walls with matching balloons taped to the walls. On the middle wall in big white block letters “Happy Birthday Ben!” was printed. As I looked around I started to notice a theme. Then it finally hit me, Ben’s family had thrown a KU themed Birthday party. KU was Ben’s favorite football team.
At that moment more people began to arrive and the large living room began to buzz with conversations. I went over to the snack table and grabbed a few chips. Mrs. Hoffman went all out for Ben’s birthday. There were five different assortments of chips and salsas, little blue and white cookies in a huge bowl and cupcakes with KU written in white frosting on the top. It all looked so good but my eyes couldn’t fathom the size of Ben’s birthday cake. It was a huge blue five layer football cake with white frosting around the edges. Wow! That is the most delicious football I’ve ever laid my eyes on.
“Alright everyone Ben is coming!” Yelled Mrs. Hoffman.
