Black Hawk Down In 1993 there was a Civil War in Somalia, Africa. A group of US soldiers were sent to Mogadishu in efforts to put a stop to the violence and all around genocide to the people of Somalia and to find the generals of the top warlord, Mohammed Farah Aidid, who in efforts to keep control of Somalia, were blocking and keeping the shipments of food. The mission went array when two of their Black Hawk helicopters, their main source of power, were shot down by the enemy. The soldiers who were still alive found themselves in a rescue mission with almost no reinforcements, up against villagers with weapons with only the small amounts of ammunition they had left. high command launched a terrifying rescue operation to save and bring home their men. A few of the main characters was Blackburn, Busch, Hoot, Grimes, Eversmann, Nelson, and McKnight. Before, during, and after the war in Somalia the United States played the role of world policeman, trying to protect and save those in need of help and those who were in dire times of hardships, sometimes we even were alone but more often we did have the one up due to our alliances.
The 90’s started off with Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait and the aftermath of this being the Gulf War. In 1993, there was the war in the African country of Somalia, which is what the film Black Hawk Down is based on. Then there started being images on the television of children in pain, starving, and needing help; so came the attempt by the US to find and get rid of the reason of this, the warlord Mohamed Farrah Aidid. In September, 1994, there was the next group of our military sent into Haiti to help overthrow and stop the corruption by their dictator. 1996 was a big time for America; we sent approximately 20,000 of our American soldiers to Bosnia to take part in the NATO peace keeping force. Throughout the 90’s America was taking on the role of big brother, stepping in on situations when need be in our surrounding countries. We were doing our best, much like the soldiers in the movie Black Hawk Dawn who were in Somalia, to save the unarmed women, children, and men who were being controlled, brutally murdered, and starved thanks to the warlords, and dictators taking over places such as Somalia, Africa in 1993 and Haiti in
1994. I felt that this movie was very good and precise in its details, the depiction of the action and war that took place in Somalia was shown very well. Although, I find it very hard to watch movies like this because it breaks my heart to see people go through situations that were seen in this movie. It was a good historical movie because it unforgivingly showed the massacre of our soldiers and of their people, a lot of times you will see movies holding back due to the violence but this movie I feel was to show what it took of our soldiers and of America to aid this country.
