What was once a very powerful bridge to allow white people to see that black people
were just as intelligent, just as strong and just as innovated as any white person. It served the purpose of opening the hearts and minds of most Caucasian persons. Over the years, however, the Black History theme has taken on an increasingly different meaning. It is now used to elevate the black culture over the white culture. The advancement of all areas for the blacks is evident that we have achieved equality. I now feel that we need to stop dividing people by color or creed or culture. We now need to have a month that shows the accomplishments of all cultures. By continuing to have the month of February declared a month for one culture we have actually achieved the opposite.
We have encouraged the separation of our cultures. We now have a Black President of the United States. President Obama has achieved the highest honor of the American people, not just the black people. I now believe as our founding fathers believed that all men are created equal. We, as Americans, are now united and equal. I even have black friends who feel uncomfortable that a month should be dedicated to them as they no longer feel deprived or discriminated against. We see no difference in each other and this nation should no longer see when racism overpowered the country.
