Black Swan
The movie Black Swan has many traits of psychological disorders. Some of the disorders that are displayed through out the movie are delusional disorder, schizophrenia, and depression. Delusional disorder is displayed by severe delusions of jealousy and persecution. Schizophrenia is displayed by delusions, and hallucinations split between though and emotion. Depression is sadness, hopelessness, and a state of despondency.
Nina Sayers shows signs of delusional disorder by her going out with another ballerina Lily for some drinks and her believing they went home together and had sex. She is unable to tell what is real and what was false. She also thinks her teacher Thomas wants her sexually as when she practices for the performance he forces her to try harder and make her feel sexual. Nina is delusional by seeing her teacher Thomas and friend Lily making out and about to have sex. Nina also believes that Lily is jealous and wants her role in the performance as the white and black swan.
Schizophrenia is showed by her seeing herself in the mirrors as she practices and the reflections are screaming and reaching out for her. Another scene is when Nina is taking a bath and a shadow appears over her and seems like it is about to hurt her. Nina also hallucinates when she goes to see Beth a former ballerina in the hospital after having an accident. Nina envisions Beth stabbing herself with a nail file multiple times. Beth is also experiencing a psychological disorder. She was hit by a car a, but she may have wanted the car to hit her on purpose as she was depressed knowing she was being replaced by Nina in the play. In the end Nina believes that she has fought with Lily which she stabbed Lily and hid her body in the closet in the dressing room. When in reality she was fighting herself and stabbed herself.
Through the entire movie there is a lot of depression. Nina’s mother shows forms of being depressed by being sad, crying. The
