Movie: Doubt
Sister James and Sister Aloysius play a very important role in John Patrick Shanley’s movie Doubt, which is about the mistrust that takes place in a school directed by the church on priest Flynn command. There, sister Aloysius is the principal, so she is in charge of the student’s rights and responsibilities. On the other hand Sister James is a history teacher. Both characters are important for their way of handling the doubt.
First of all, Sister Aloysius is a very mistrusting person, she trusts no one, and has no problem on thinking bad things about people, with what could be little to no evidence at all. She can be persuaded by a rumor. She doesn’t even trust Priest Flynn. On the other hand, Sister James acted different. Even though she was the one who started the rumor, she had a lot of doubts about its veracity. There were a lot of elements that kept her in between on the priest case. She couldn’t believe that father Flynn was capable of giving wine to a kid. You could say she thought that the priest was “innocent until proven guilty”.
“Innocent until proven guilty”, there is no such thing for Sister Aloysius. On the entire case, she never even bothered to look for any important evidence. She was blind and even assumed some things about father Flynn abusing the kid. She put all her effort on throwing out the Priest. But Sister James thought that there could be a misleading line, that they could be missing an important fact. She couldn`t believe someone was capable of committing what sister Aloysius told her. However she could be easy to convince because both, father Flynn and Sister Aloysius convinced her about their stories.
All these characters personalities, I think were given by their life style. Sister Aloysius looked really strict and very into religion, cut she showed to be double faced. Even with her very strict policy, she enjoyed changes, even technology. Once she was caught listening to radio with an ear piece,

In the film Doubt, Father Flynn is a priest of a catholic school who is being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a student named Donald Miller. The accusations are brought upon by the principle of the school, Sister Aloysius. Those accusations that are brought upon him were not based on facts, only Sister Aloysius’s certainty. Even though Father Flynn could not be proven guilty or innocent, there was no evidence proving him to be guilty.…

Sister Aloysius was described as a narrow minded and a very judgmental person, who didn’t want to accept any authority but her own. According to a church hierarchy, a nun was a subordinate to the priest, no matter how smart or experienced she was, she had no power. That was another motive for Sister Aloysius to dislike Father Flynn. She wanted him to be removed from St. Nicholas, which would grant her the only authority. That is also a reason that she tried to make Father Flynn confess, because no one would pay attention to her accusations.…

In the prologue, a character is introduced by the name of Douglas. He is one who has the manuscript for the story. The first sign of the governess’ reliability is shown by the fact that Douglas is actual Miles. The first sign of this is shown by the fact the governess who gave Douglas the story “was ten years older” than him and “she was my sister’s governess” (James 5). In the story, the age of Miles is ten and the governess is 20. This age difference is the first of many pieces of evidence pointing to the fact Douglas is actually an older Miles. Since Douglas is actual Miles, the governess whom he received the story is his old governess from when he was ten. This is why he said she was his sister’s governess. The reason Douglas/Miles did not also include that the governess was also his is because she spent more time with his sister Flora. In the novel, it states numerous times that Flora slept in the same room as the governess. This creates a better connection between her and Flora instead of her and Miles. The reason Douglas being Miles helps proves the governess’ reliability is that he is allowed to look over her story. Giving the story to Douglas/Miles allows him to look over it and see if she left out any arcing events or miss told anything. Since she wrote it years after it took place, the governess want to make the story as accurate as possible and this is shown by sending it to Douglas/…

The first actress would fit the role of Sister Aloysius because she is an older and more experienced white nun, has a stern look to her, and has a simple and conservative appearance. In the headshot, the actresses’ gaze is very harsh and watchful, which would work well with the way Sister Aloysius attempts to watch over the children in the school and Father Flynn. The way her lips are pressed tightly together suggests that she is careful with her words, as well as who she says them too. In the play Sister Aloysius was careful in recruiting Sister James to help her keep track of the wellbeing of her students, without immediately suggesting the cause for concern. This actress also has a bit of a stubborn look to her, and Sister Aloysius certainly sticks to her convictions for the majority of the play.…

Through Jacobs’ writings, Alonzo was able to identify that relationships and bonds are very important. (118-122). Jacobs’ emphasizes the relationships rather than establishing herself. Personal relationships with family, friends, co-workers, and God are a major factor in her writings. She never thinks for herself, but for others. Responsibility in relationships is also emphasized in her story, for example, Mr. Sands wasn’t able to complete his responsibility as a husband and father, but Harriet Jacobs completed her responsibility as a mother and granddaughter. Her children, family and friends kept her going. Due to that, Harriet Ann Jacobs is able to conquer her fear of trust also in Incidents, who to trust and who not to trust, not only…

Sister James was a fairly young nun at St. Nicolas School and she played a pivotal role as she brings her suspicions to her superior. The readers are obligated to make conclusions based on Sister James’ doubt and uncertainty. The mother of the Alter Boy’s name is Vila Davis. When Villa hears about Sister Aloysius doubts about a sexual relationship between her son and Father Flynn she states, “ Things are in the air and you leave them alone if you can…My boy came here because they were gonna kill him at the public school… But do I ask the man why he’s good to my son? No, I don’t care why. My Son needs to some man to care about him and see him through to where he wants to go”(898). This quote shows that Mrs. Muller believes that the uncertainty of ones suspicions are better not said or looked over. She rather provide her son with a better future then take someone’s suspicions to a greater extent. Consequently, the central disagreement in the play Doubt is limited to ones views of the world and capability to admit the ambiguity in day-to-day living. In this case, we will never know many things regarding this world, while at the same time we will not be in the position of controlling much regarding our futures. The best thing for us therefore, is that of anticipating and expecting the worst and therefore, preparing so as not to be caught unawares when the worst comes.…

When the movie Argo began to play I thought to myself this movie may not have my interest. The Iran’s were very aggressive toward the Americans because they felt as if we were trying to harm them. I did not understand the language they were speaking. However, the film should have made the CC pop up at the bottom of the screen so we could at least read their conversations. When the Americans began to burn all of the files they had I started to question were they really trying to help the Iran’s or not. The Iran’s started to get serious by shutting the power off in the buildings so the Americans could not talk to anyone. I began to get curious about what would happen next.…

In the film “Doubt”, a Parish was led by the pastor, Father Flynn, and the principal, Sister Aloysius. Both leaders wanted to bring the Parish together and build Kingdom, but they each had their own flaws and ways of tearing Kingdom down as well. Sister Aloysius applied the rules at all times, but used fear as her way to control the Parish and keep it intact. Father Flynn opposed this and confronted her many times about it. Father Flynn also wanted to uphold the rules, but also make the school more of a fun and welcoming place, without as many of the strict rules that were being enforced by Sister Aloysius. In the beginning of the movie, Sister Aloysius cared deeply about each student, but also wanted to keep tradition and sophistication…
