The Blackfoot Tribe was a unique tribe. They spoke their own Blackfoot language with words that were very long and difficult to pronounce. They were known as buffalo hunters. They would drive the buffalo off of cliffs or
strike them with a bow and arrow. They relied on buffalo for food, clothing, and supplies. The Blackfoot men were very protective of their family and would even go to war just to protect them. They would wear tunics made out of buckskin and breechcloths with leggings. The women, took care of the house and did all of the cooking and cleaning. They would also help build the houses and carry the heavy posts with them whenever the tribe was moving. The women wore long dresses made out of deerskin. The children had many chores, but they were still able to act like normal kids and play with each other and go to school. They played with dolls, toys and played special games such as “The Hoop Game”. Young Boys would usually go hunting with their father, while the girls helped their mother cook and clean. The tribe lived in Tipis. Since the tribe was always moving, the tipis were designed to be put together and taken apart very easily. Storytelling and art were very important to the tribe. The artists would design beadwork and embroidery quills. Embroidery quills is the softening of porcupine quills and then weaving them on leather and birchbark.
The four nations within the Blackfoot Tribe all had their own government and leaders. Each nation was lead by a council of chiefs, one from each clan. The people always wanted an opinion, so the chief had to have everyone agree on a decision before making it. Most of the
