The commercial starts out with a young boy in a tuxedo staring at himself when his mother comes in the room wearing a tan shirt, complimenting how good he looks. The boy rolls his eyes and shows a look of disapproval. The mother notices that her son is feeling upset, so she tells him to not feel bad, and that many students go to prom by themselves, but from the kitchen, his little sister who is coloring at the table replies, “no they don’t.” The mother fixes her son’s black bowtie as he makes his way towards the front door. As he grabs the door handle, his father comes from the other room and calls for his son. When the boy turned around, the father tossed him his car keys to a silver 2013 Audi S6. The boy catches them with one hand, and shows a look of shock. His father then tells him to have fun tonight with a nod of approval.…

The Skittles commercial entitled “Romance” begins with a zoomed-in camera angle of a teenage boy pouring a bag of skittles into his hands. At this point it is visible that the boy is wearing a blue hoodie accompanied by a blue, gray, and white shirt. The skittle bag itself is exaggerated in color and works to draw the attention of the viewer to the bag as its brilliant red gleams comparatively to the dull background of the boy's shirt. As the skittles are poured into the hands of the boy, the sound of the skittles rustling down and out of the bag is also audible compared to the relative silence that surrounds it.…

Commercials often take their viewers to another world. As a rule, this world must imitate our own for any sense of understanding and purpose. Advertisers take advantage of this aspect of video storytelling to help people connect with their products and view them in ways which are desirable for the company. A myth is created around the product being advertised to position the item favorably in the consumer's mind. Two commercials which display examples of mythologizing products and our society are Slim Jim's, "Camouflage, and GM's, "Elevation."…

Yet, I understand the message that the skittles corporation was sending out, it was meant to be a funny commercial that people would at first be shocked to see; but towards the end they would see it as comical. I believe the only place that the commercial was allowed to be broadcasted was in Europe, due to the fact that broadcasting stations in Europe are a little bit more relaxed on the morals and ethics of television humor. In this country though there are many organizations and groups of people that would certainly object to this kind of content. For example, Christians and Catholics, and the whole concept of pre marital sex and sex out of wedlock; this commercial is a straight…
