Blindness-Personal Narrative
It started out as any other normal day. Except for one thing. "Plop". A blob of white, slimy goo fell onto the side of my bed. I look up, half expecting to see some sort of monster, drooling all over me. Instead I see a ceiling covered in goo. "Plop". This time it falls onto my face. Gross. I quickly roll out of my bed, and grab my shoes. By the time I am done with that, the atrocious liquid is spewing down my walls. "Mom!" I yell. I wait for a response but no one answers. I call for my mom three more times but receive no reply. I decide to go check the kitchen where I can usually find my parents on a Saturday morning. Still, there is no one. I go up and check their room, still no one. I try the front and back yard, but no luck. By this …show more content…
Creek. The door opened a crack, but there was an absence of people. "Hello?", I said. I tip toed into the main corridor and looked around. Nothing was out of place or missing, except for humans. I then tried all the neighbors on my street, and the next. At this point I was terrified, and did not think it could get any worse, but it did. All of a sudden, the same goo that I had seen in my room earlier, started falling out of the sky. It started off as a light drizzle, and turned into a massive pour. I looked up towards the sky just in time to see a giant spaceship landing a few hundred feet down the road. I paced back and forth, contemplating my next move. I chose to get a better look, and raced towards the mysterious object. Just as I arrived, the door on the space ship inched open. I stepped back to let whatever was in there out. "Greetings, fellow earthling", it said. "I have come to tell you that you are needed for a very important experiment." The green, one-eyed figure then stepped aside and pulled out one of my good friends from school, Tommy Davis. I gasped in horror. In a quick, and precise movement, they placed Tommy in a machine that made a disturbing sound. He was lifted off the ground, and his scream was …show more content…
The same white goo I had seen earlier, in place of Tommy. My first instinct was to run, and I would have, if not that two aliens were already guiding me to the rocket ship. Inside, I immediately recognized students, teachers, coaches, and even neighbors. I could not seem to find my parents, which made think that they were the goo in my room earlier. at this point, I was very sad, tired, and scared. I watched people after people transform, each time getting scarier. I did not know when they would get to me, or if they would get to me. But I did know one thing, my life was about to change forever.

My mother, sister, and I were driving down Highway 124 on a hot July day when my mom screamed and slammed on the breaks. Fear rushed through our bodies. Outside the car window, a short young African American man was launched into the air. As he came down, a loud boom sounded as his body helplessly rolled off the hood of the faint green Toyota Corolla in front of us. The man lay motionless in the road while we waited for what seemed like hours for the driver to exit the car. His red shirt and gym shorts were ripped. The driver of the opposing car threw the vehicle in reverse in a spasmodic action in an attempt to end the man’s life. The injured man made an effort to crawl onto the Wendy’s sidewalk, forcing his body up on the curb to evade the car. The driver drove up onto the curb and blew its tire, just barely missing the wounded man. Realizing the driver would stop at nothing, my mother drove her white suburban in front of the car, blocking the violent perpetrator from doing any further damage.…

A proverb in the Bible says, “Where there is no vision, the people perish.” This has become very meaningful to me as I consider the importance of college, and what I hope to do after college. The word “vision” is defined as a supernatural appearance that surveys a revelation. After reading “The Country of The Blind” and reflecting back on my life, I realized that I am who I am mostly because of the environment I grew up in. One of the most important applications of vision for me has been in my personal education. Right when I was able to run and jump, I followed my mother everywhere she went, most of the time unwanted.…

“You know you see the world differently than most,” my mother once said casually in a passing moment between antics. Automatically this statement set a blanket of panic over me. We were driving to the grocery store; I wasn’t expecting my mom to just drop a philosophical bomb on me. It was one of those things I never thought about before. Did I see more colors than other people? Do I actually see ghosts? Does everyone else see ghosts? What cool ghost parties have I missed out on? While the questions I first presented don’t really mean anything this was unknowingly the foundation for a core belief of mine. I believe in people’s perspective.…

As I look to the scenery I acknowledge its beautiful details. It is a wonder of the world that soon may fell between the cracks. A place that I will cherish all my life, a place that is one of a kind. Two hundred places I’ve seen only once. Vivid in my memory for a few years and but soon may be forgotten. But this did not. It will remain in me forever, and as scroll up it reached the end. The end of my photo album I have in my phone last summer vacation I had with my…

Time is winding down and the past thirty nine weeks has been nothing short but amazing. It has been full of different emotions and feelings. From the stretching of the skin to the sudden movement I have never felt before. It was all a new experience, but the feeling was indescribable. After a restless night, the sunrise appeared before I knew it. The pain was unbearable, but after several hours and a couple of good pushes you were here. I was extremely exhausted, but the relief was absolutely amazing. At first sight I fell in love with you. Not for how you look, just for who you are. I never thought I could feel affection like this. What is this? Is this how it's assume to feel or even resemble? It's kind of insane how you, only one individual,…

It was a ferociously gloomy day in the heart of Center City. The time of the observation was from 11:43 am to 12:43pm. Sandwiched between 15th street and John F. Kennedy Boulevard is the Philadelphia's Municipal Services Building and within the plaza of the building lies Board Game Park. Even in the rain, the park was festive. Upon arriving, it began to drizzle. The drizzle was light enough for me to sit by a statue that was composed of multiple bodies piled on top of one another. The noises heard ranged from rain dropping, to horns honking to people laughing or shouting. In the surrounding area of the Board Game Park is Love Park with its remarkable LOVE sculpture and fountain, which was spewing pink water in support of Breast Cancer Awareness…

Finally, when I moved to New Orleans I started volunteer work at the Children’s Hospital and helped with pop up clinics for the Latino community twice. Overall I found that helping others shouldn't be something seen as duty or mandatory, it should be spontaneous. Through others experiences and hardships we learn and grow as human beings, not only did I enjoy helping others but I felt that it helped me with my problems. Having moved around so much and meet so many people and living by myself so many years I came to truly be thankful for my blessings and specially for my hardships. Hermann Hesse once said, "I have always believed, and I still believe, that whatever good or bad fortune may come our way we can always give it meaning and transform it into something of value." Helping others made me realize that we all need help and that my way to help others would be through their health. It also taught me not to judge anybody, especially if you don't know what they have been through. I am hard believer that everything happens for a reason, and all the weekends I spend watching my parents help others helping others myself made me the determined person that I am today. Finally, the most important lesson I learned was to never give up, no matter how hard the task is or how bad the problem is there will always be someone willing to help and you can always be both sides to that, the helper or the one who needs…

Then a tall homeless man with a dirty gray cap, big scary eyes, and dirty torn clothes, then stared at my cousins and I. He suddenly turned behind our backs and started to follow us without our knowledge for a moment until we couldn’t see anything but the sun and the sound of cars around us, it was like he was invisible, suddenly he jumped behind us and sprayed us with some type of mist that made us all fall to the ground. A few minutes later, when we opened our eyes, we found ourselves near a big garbage can with no one around us we were clueless. There we saw a small sticky note that was stuck to the side of the garbage…
