Plasma International Blood retail company is primarily buying and selling
blood even there’s a volunteer donations through out the USA and UK. I could
definitely relate this company and Sol Levin to egoistic theory. All company care
about is to making the most profits possible from the blood sales. Especially
they bought blood from the people that are addicted to drugs and alcohol. Some of
these drug addicts might even have diseases like Aids if they share their needles
with the HIV+ persons. Obviously company doesn’t care where the blood comes
from. Because it won’t effect the company’s profits what so ever due to Americas high
demand on blood. They even buy blood from Africa for 15 cents a pint and selling it for
25 dollars a pint. This is a true egoist company. Their actions depends upon the what
benefits the company? Unettiqual. Even some people could benefit from this company
but that’s not what really matters.
As for volunteer blood donors in America and UK, I could relate them to
Utilitarianism. By donating blood, they help people in need of blood even saving
their lives. They want nothing in return. They are doing it for good cause for great
number of people. This is the greatest number of happiness to all those people in
need of blood and their families. But sometimes they consider if they should donate
blood or not because it might end up in the hands of the blood companies and that would
be against the Utilitarians core values. Because they donated blood for a good cause to
help people in need of blood and for the greatest number of happiness not
for some company’s profit. Because of that, some utilarians might not even donate any
blood at all because of that.
I could also put some of the blood donors to Kantian ethics. Most of these donors
donate blood not for self interest but it is right thing to do for our society. Blood is very
scarce
