Organizational Change and Forging Bonding Relationships
Implementing Organizational Change states that forging bonding relationships in an organization is critical to success. How would you do this in challenging economic times when cost-cutting measures must be implemented?
A crucial way to forge relationships during challenging economic times is by uniting the group with a single mission of operating as resourcefully as possible. Managers should be honest with the team, and as factual as possible to the team. Bonding relationships during a struggling economy can be difficult. Staff should be welcomed to offer suggestions to ease the cost burden. It would be critical to listen to suggestions with an open mind and implement as many worthy ideas as possible to further encourage open communication. Often employees volunteer to cut hours, share work (flex jobs) or identify areas in which the company is wasting money. There should be brainstorming sessions to determine if money is being wasted, and if there are areas that can be run more efficiently. Ideas to increase revenue through higher patient volume should also be explored. As a last resort staff should also be made aware that they may need to make some sacrifices in order to keep the department running, such as working less hours or even a temporary pay cut. If the team is able to join together and come thru a difficult time they will be more bonded and work more efficiently than ever before. Emotional bonds motivate employees to put forth effort, communicate honestly, and openly, and enable them to handle conflict in a positive manner (Spector, 2010).
