Book Report : Anne of Green Gables
I read the book Anne of Green Gables and then watched the movie. The book and the movie were different in a lot of ways but the same in a lot of ways too.

Now here is the basic plot of Anne of Green Gables, the movie and the book. Anne Shirley is a red-haired, freckled orphan who is mistakenly sent to live with Matthew Cuthbert and his sister, Marilla, in the town of Avonlea. Her wild imagination, nonstop talking, and hot temper show us throughout the book that she is a very interesting orphan. As she matures, by the love and discipline of Marilla and Matthew, she becomes an intelligent and independent young woman who takes control of her wild imagination and she does not talk as much. She gets accepted at the top of the class for Queen?s Academy. Some other important characters are her bosom friend, Diana Barry, classmate rival and eventually friend, Gilbert Blythe, and town gossip, Rachel Lynde.

Now here are some of the differences between the movie and the book. The book does not start out with Anne?s past, but the movie they shows us her whole past. Then, in the movie at Mr. Phillips? departure, Josie Pye bets Anne to walk the ridge pole. Anne sprains her ankle. In the book, she gets dared to walk it at the party, and she breaks her ankle. Gilbert offers to walk her home. Another thing is in the book Matthew get Mrs. Rachel to make Anne a new brown dress for Christmas. But, in the movie, he buys her a new blue dress for a ball. Then in the book Anne and her friends make a story club, but they don?t have one in the movie. A different thing is when Anne got accepted to Queens; it was Gilbert who told Anne that they tied, not her friend Diana. Then at the end of the movie Gilbert tells Anne that he is giving up Queens so that she could teach there instead. In the book Mrs. Rachel tells Anne. Then the final thing is that Matthew died from when the cows back to their pasture and had a heart attack in the movie. But in the book he died from seeing that his bank

Usually when talking about a movie or a book, it hard to discuss the similarities and the differences. Because sometimes a movie can be more influencing than a book and vice versa. When I first started reading the book The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, I was confused at first but then as I kept reading, I realized how things can go a certain way and how one person can make a change in the whole world without even meaning to. Personally, what I…

There were several similarities between the book and the movie. One way they were alike was Joetta thinks that the angel does not look like her because the angel is white and she is African American. Another similarity between the two was Kenny believes that if he stays behind the couch long enough, the “magic” will work to get rid of his depression. A final comparison was when they see the notebook their mom made and…

Ever read a book, and then seen the movie? The book is usually better right? That’s most likely because of the differences. The book is more descriptive most of the time. Events in the book are missing from the movie. Or the movie adds some in.…

Movies and books are always different; in a movie you can show multiple characters, and in most books you're stuck in one character's narrative. For instance in the book The Giver the character Fiona doesn’t care about Jonas as deeply as she does in the movie. In the movie she stops her injections, and she starts to love Jonas. However in the book she only “enjoys having Jonas’s company”. In the movie she also helps Jonas steal Gabe before he is killed, and she is put in the community jail for helping him. Before she is going to be released she talks about how she has felt things. That she knows what it is like to truly feel, and in the book she isn’t this unorthodox.…

Some of the characters in the film are how they are portrayed in the book, whereas many are quite different. In the book Ivy Lloyd (Poison Ivy) is Josie’s arch enemy and Carly is just someone who is mentioned in chapter 8, whereas in the movie Ivy and Carly have been blended into the same character. The fights between Josie and Ivy have been omitted and they don’t reconcile their differences at the end. Also in the book Josie has three friends, Anna, Sera and Lee but in the movie Lee has been blended into both Sera and Anna. In the book Lee has a different point of view and brings more to the group of friends. Other characters such as Josie (Pia Miranda), John Barton (Matthew Newton) and Michael Andretti (Anthony LaPaglia) are well casted in these roles for the movie because they looked like they were described in the book. Christina, Josie’s mum, looked too much like Marcus Stanford in the movie and in the book was described to look more Italian. All in all the characters in the movie were very good interpretations of the characters in the book.…

Differences between the two start from the very first scene. In the movie we see all of the girls and Tituba in the forest dancing and casting the spell, while in the book they only reference that it happened, but is never shown in the play. This scene is the most crucial part in setting up everything that is going to happen in the play. The fact that the play does not show this doesn’t let the readers actually visualize what happened like the movie does. Another difference in the scenes is that in the play the Doctor goes to visit Betty, but in the movie he goes to see Ruth and Reverend Parris says that Betty is the same…

Anne at the end of the story became a very mature 15 year old girl. She grew up by herself through the diary. Writing helped Anne to explore her personality, and see how much she changed in such a short time. She defiantly matured towards her mother. At the beginning she was very rude to her mother, but towards the end she realized her relationship with her mother was not good. She became more tolerant with her mother and made the most of the relationship they had. Anne definitely grew up a lot over the whole story.…

One thing in particular that the book does much better is making use of complex metaphors and themes, such as: the river for life, and oneness with nature, that string themselves together as you turn each page of the book, while in the movie the metaphors and symbolism are represented in a much different way through picture. In the book, both themes regarding the river are very vivid and clear, as they use strong imagery of nature to draw pictures in the minds of the readers. In the movie both themes are represented and referred to much less because of the lack of narration.…

The writer, Lucy Montgomery, has an impressive sense of humor and her way with words is exceptionally awesome; after reading about Montgomery’s life I think that Anne represented her in fantasy world, the reason why I think that is because she has a lot of similarities with Anne I mean like they both were orphan and like Anne, Montgomery was particular about the spelling of name, and both of them loved green gables (which is Prince Edward Island in real life.) In the book the author has used a third person narrative mode to unfold the plot. The vivid descriptions of nature and Anne’s beautiful portrayal of the places in her day dream as well as her surroundings makes Lucy Montgomery a detailed oriented writer.…

Why I think the moviemaker chose those difference between the book and the movie was because in the book there was a narrator to tell you specific things. The narrator is there to tell some background information and make sure you get a better grasp of what’s taking place. So I feel as if in the movie they wanted you to pay closer attention to what was happening. And you have to have some differences between the two. While in the movie you can see more action and can sometimes explain things better by acting out, rather than being written out.…

The novel, Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery, follows the adventures of a young orphan girl, who finally finds a place she can call home. The orphan girl, Anne, has a kindred spirit that fills the hearts of the people of Avonlea. Her passion, enthusiasm, and imagination are captured in the 1984 film version directed by Kevin Sullivan. His version is the most popular because he stays true to the main plot of the text, enhances the imagery provided by Montgomery, and captures Anne’s temper and carelessness, which often get her into trouble. The relationships Anne forms while in Avonlea are very important to her character development, but some of these relationships develop differently…

I did not know Charles Middleton Simons as most of his family, friends and colleagues did. But he was a good man, he would come down every weekend to and hunt at Hungry Neck Hunt Club and talk to all the other guys that would come every week, for some hunting and to interact with the members at the Hungry Neck Hunt Club. He seemed like a very nice person that had his life in line but I guess something must have gotten to him. I will miss him, so will his family and friends. He had a wife that loved him very dearly and loved him a lot and was trying to help somebody find his killer. He was very brutally killed and was left there in the woods where he was hunting and was had his hands skinned off. He did not deserve what happened to him and I hope justice is served to the person who had the guts to kill this innocent man for no reason. I also hope that he will be locked up in jail for a very long time for what he has done to Charles Middleton Simons. I hope his friends and family are able to get over these very difficult times in their life and to overcome this hardship as one and to become stronger from this event. Also those we pray for Charles Middleton Simons, so that he can have a better life up there. It will be a big relieve once they catch who did this to him, since there will be one less danger in this community that can affect us in any way. We have to make the hunting club a safer and better place for all the members and not make the same mistake that Charles did and to learn from the mistake of others. I am once again sorry for what has happened to Charles Middleton Simons and I hope the best for his friends and family and I hope that Charles rests in peace.…
