He had fled the claustrophobic confines of his family.” I believe that this quote is saying that he had deep problems with intimacy, he went on a 2 year trip for meaning and peace. He makes sure to keep distant from people and ignores the bond of intimacy by going into the wild. The other quote that I had found of importance to this book was, “...’How is it’, he wonders aloud as he gazes blankly across Chesapeake Bay, ‘that a kid with so much compassion could cause his parents so much pain?’”. I believe that this quote is the symbol of the problem of Chris’ story. It tells us that he was very compassionate and caring. This quote makes us question how could a person who is so caring and compassionate act so selfish, when he himself hated how selfish Americans lived, while his actions and behavior were very selfish in causing pain to those who loved him?
My general view of Into the Wild was that it was a unique book, that Christopher McCandless was very smart and courageous, also, I felt that he should have prepared for his extra long adventure better with supplies/resources made for
