Book Summary: Chocolate Covered Ants
The book I read is called Chocolate Covered Ants. The book is about Max and his brother Adam. For his birthday, Adam got an ant colony and he loves it so much. But, he has to send for his ants through the mail and they don’t for 4-6 weeks. He can’t wait for his ants to come and he is so excited. When they finally come, he is so excited and doesn’t talk about anything else other than the ants. Max is always pretending to step on ants, or kill them in some way. He also assured Adam that people eat chocolate covered ants. But, Adam didn’t believe him. So Max made a bet with him for $13 that people really do eat chocolate covered ants. But Adam wanted to see that people eat chocolate covered ants. So Max went into the backyard and dug up some …show more content…

So Max called Adam down to the kitchen and showed him that eat could eat chocolate covered ants. He didn’t like the taste but forced them down his throat so he could win the bet. But that wasn’t good enough for Adam. The bet was that Adam wanted to see people eat chocolate covered ants not just Max, since he was only one person. Max tried to get all his friends from to school to come home with him and show his little brother that people really do eat ants for half of the $13. No one would though. In the middle of class, Max and his friend, Larry, got caught passing around the bag of chocolate covered ants. So the teacher made them come up to the front of the class and eat them in front of everybody. Max was used to the taste but Larry thought it was disgusting. By the time Max got home, Adam had heard about the ant story during school. But he didn’t see it happen so Adam didn’t believe that any body ate ants. Days went by and Max still didn’t have any proof to Adam that people ate ants. Until, one day Larry agreed to eat the ants in front of his brother for $9. But when they got home, the ants were not in Max’s bedroom. They looked for them everywhere including Adams room. Max looked under Adams bed and saw the plate of ants

After a while on the island under Ralph’s rule, the boys get tired of working all day long and decide to join Jack’s tribe. Jack has a contrasting view of life on the island and his tribe just hunts and feasts. They do not even have shelters. Ralph and Piggy are the last to switch over to Jack’s tribe and when they do, all of the boys start chanting the hunting song they made up. “The beast struggled forward, broke the ring and fell over the steep edge of the rock to the sand by the water. At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leapt on to the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore” (Goulding 213). After the boys killed Simon, Ralph realized what he did was wrong and he left Jack’s tribe. This shows that bad people can get good people to do evil things, but the person will always be good at heart.…

While Flick is more intent on creating inventions in order to make life around the colony easier, he is also clumsy and delays the others from collecting food for the grasshoppers. Dot loves all of Flick’s inventions. Also, important to note, Flick is very inventive, but his clumsiness, we see, nearly kills princess Ada, and causes all “The Offering” to spill into the river.…

The beginning of the film starts out with a camera overlooking the whole town of which this movie is going to take place. As the credits end, the camera ends up focused on a large house on a hill. You can clearly tell that the house is made up of some sort of material, but it was used as a way to introduce one of the main characters. A spider crawls up on top of the model house and in comes Adam. The first thing he does is carelessly pick up this massive spider as if it where one of his pets and carries it to a window where he releases it. Right off the bat you could tell that this man is kind to nature and very gentle with the way he handled the spider. In comes his wife, Barbara, who is filled with joy and love. Their mutual understanding of each other makes them love each other more and more. They both hear something come from outside and realize that it is a house bidder trying to sell their home to people that are more “deserving” of it. This house bidder assumes that because just two people are living in a large home by themselves that it is irrational for them to agree to sell it. The one thing that both Adam and Barbara share is their eagerness to keep their home. The couple denies the house bidder and then drives into town to pick up some supplies. Looking at the surrounding environment makes it obvious that Adam and Barbara’s home is the focal point of the town. Adam leaves his car to go in the store to get the supplies, when he realizes that the clerk isn’t at the front desk he takes money out of his pocket and puts it into the cash register himself. This again, exemplifies the honesty of this man. On the drive back home, they see a dog in the road and Barbara quickly swerves off the road crashing into a wooden bridge that is completely unstable. Their car ends up falling into a river and the scene cuts. They end up back at their house but do not realize how they got there. After very bizarre things occur to them, they start to question…

    The Large Ant

In 2012, 16259 people in the United States were murdered and another 1.8 million people were sent to the hospital due to assault. Humans resorting to violence and harming others is a daily occurrence, but why? Is it in our nature, are we instinctively violent, and why is it that these acts are not only happening in the United States but worldwide. Although the average person does not leave their home planning on harming somebody that day, under the right circumstances almost every single person in this world will commit an act of violence. Sometimes these acts are justified, such as when we are trying to protect ourselves or a loved one, but what about the smaller acts that we all do every day. Whether it is killing the spider you see crawling on the wall, or the bee flying around simply trying to do its job. We do not see these as acts of violence but in there essence they are. Why is it that our first instinct is to kill them when they are not causing us any harm? Howard Fast builds on this idea within the theme of his short story The Large Ant, where the narrator kills a creature that resembles an ant, purely out of instinct.…
