Border Control Securing our nations border has been one of the top priorities for Homeland Security. There’s tons of controversy how the government should handle this issue. For many years, congress has passed bills enforcing illegal immigrant crake downs to make our nation as safe as possible. But in the past decade many people have felt that these actions taken by the government have not been enough. Many states like Arizona, Indiana, Georgia, Wisconsin, and Alabama have taken action in their own hands by passing laws that allow certain government officials to take further action then just at the borders. The SB 1070 bill requires all aliens or immigrants over the age of fourteen that remain in the United States longer than 30 days have to register with the government, and needs to have registration documents in their possession at all times. This Act additionally makes it a state misdemeanor crime for an alien to be in Arizona without carrying the required documents requires that state law enforcement officers attempt to determine an individual's immigration status during a "lawful stop, detention or arrest" when there is reasonable suspicion that the individual is an illegal immigrant, bars state or local officials or agencies
Of all the states that have adopted the Sb1070 law, Arizona has had the most impact when it comes to their Businesses, health care facilities, and schools have reported substantial drops in attendance from the Hispanic population. People believe that the illegal immigrants were moving back to Mexico or other states. According to the current population survey there are one hundred thousand fewer Hispanics in Arizona since the bill has passed. This was a huge debate when the bill first started and is believe it’s a part of Arizona's poor economic downfall and a contributing factor of Mexico’s increase in population.
