Bottled Water Analysis
In Annie Leonard’s video “The Story of Bottled Water,” she argues about how bottled water is harmful for the environment, and how they take our money for something that isn't worth it. She also shows us how bottled water companies use three strategies to convince us to buy bottled water. The three strategies that companies use are; “scaring us, seducing us and misleading us” (5). In Leonard’s video, she wants to help her audience understand why they should avoid bottled water and use tap water by explaining the harmful impacts bottled water has on the environment, how it doesn't have any benefits on us and how expensive it is. Leonard mentions in her video how bottled water has no benefit to us. She showed us how bottled water companies scare …show more content…
She shows us how all the bottled water companies don't want us to know what plastic water bottles does to the environment. Producing plastic for water bottles needs a lot of fuel and energy, which are one of the reasons that spreads toxic fumes in the atmosphere. The fuel and energy used to produce plastic can also fuel millions of cars (4). Annie was curries about where plastic bottles that she puts in the recycling bins go. she found out that some of them were burnt, and whatever was rest, ship loads of them would be sent to India to get recycled. Instead she found mountains of water bottles from California that were down cycled, and the parts that couldn't be down cycled they were thrown away there in someone’s else backyard (5). The last thing that Annie talked about in her video is how big companies like Pepsi try to scare us from tap water by saying “The biggest enemy is tap water” (5) so we could think that all tap water is dirty and water is only drinkable from bottled water. In her video she gives her audience real solutions to how they could avoid bottled water. That’s why we should demand free tap water instead of expensive bottled water. Now restaurants are helping people save hundred or thousand of dollars that they used to spend on bottled water by serving them tap water

    Poland Spring’s recent advertisement puts its viewers in a serene natural environment; a nice sunny day overlooking a crystal clear spring on a green field. In the center of this field is a giant plastic bottle, one that is “environmentally friendly.” The bottle is praised and pointed out for using “less plastic,” “less paper,” and the very important “dye-free cap.” The bottle is called the “Eco-Shaped bottle” and is designed to have less impact on the earth. The entire scene is under the giant caption that tells of how Poland Spring is doing “less” to the environment.     Bottled water flows with many issues. The most important issue is the health impact not only for humans, but for watersheds. Bottled water companies pump 75 gallons per minute in some places (Hopey). Bottling companies take water from different areas that sometimes need the water for municipal uses. For example in the small town, Bakersville, the bottling company in Somerset County wants to come in and bottle up the water from Laurel Hill Creek that supports it.
