The author formats his research into two sections: the first section is the Virginia Tech and then the Columbine shooting. The main focus will be about the Columbine massacre that occurred in 1999. Chen gives a brief summary of the case but focuses more of the psychological field as to why this incident happened. Looking into his research, Chen points out a lot of mental illness attribution, causal attributions, racial exemplars and interracial evaluations. The usefulness of his work is well played including a mass of data/statistics to back up his research. With Virginia Tech, he compares to Columbine on how the suspects have mental issues that caused them commit multiple homicides. “Mental illness would be perceived as an external attribution…
Columbine High School (CHS) is a suburban public school located in Jefferson County, Colorado. Frank DeAngelis, a middle aged man who had previously coached football and baseball for sixteen years at Columbine, was the principal of the close-knit high school. He was loved by his students and admired by his staff for his ability to address his students as mature adults. The student body looked up to him and appreciated his truthfulness and lack of sugarcoating when serious topics were being discussed. Three days before prom an assembly was called to strengthen the awareness of the dangers of driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Instead of just lecturing the students Mr. DeAngelis used his own life experiences to teach and guide the students along the safe paths that still allowed for occasional goofing off.…

The author of The Columbine Legacy Rampage Shootings as Political Acts has stated numerous purposes within this article. The first purpose of it was to explain about the events of Columbine and attempt to show the reader how this has created a large impact resulting in more wide spread school shootings taking place. With this the author tries to convey to the reader particular characteristics that differentiate a school rampage shooting from a wide range of other school related incidents where violence was a factor. The author also attempts to show the reader types of school related shootings that have taken place before Columbine happened and even specific events which would have led to a shooting but were uncovered before it escalated that…

The documentary Bowling For Columbine is based around the terrible occurrences that took place on the 20th of April, 1999. In which two boys, Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, walked into Columbine State High School and murdered thirteen people including one teacher and injured a further twenty one in the process. Michael Moore uses this event to his advantage by investigating America’s fear culture and why it has developed into something so large. During the documentary, Moore uses a wide selection of film techniques to invite the audience to accept his version of the truth. He does this by carefully choosing and disregarding certain information. This technique is known as selection and omission. Moore also takes use of editing and sequencing shots, which helps to produce his adaptation of the truth. Michael Moore deliberately developed Bowling For Columbine to privilege and marginalise certain groups and to position the viewers to believe the ‘truth’. Moore aims to expose the fact that Americans have an unusually large culture…

There had been school shootings before Columbine. However, Columbine was the first where cell phones played a substantial role. Cell phones were rising in popularity and many students had one. Many teachers and students called the authorities as well as the local news stations from inside of the school. They were able to give live accounts of what they were seeing, who was injured and where the shooters were (CNN, Kay Jones). The police were also able to gain vital information through discarded phones that were still on call with 911 by listening to conversations and exchanges between the shooters and other victims (LiveLeak, Columbine Massacre). Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold entered the school at 11:09a.m. and had committed suicide by 12:08. Knowing virtually nothing, the press descended on the school by 12:30p.m. Watching the massacre unfold they reported anything they saw or heard. The news stations often interviewed students who had fled from the building, as well as anxious parents waiting for word. News anchors covered anything and everything they could get their hands on. The majority of the information received by the police immediately after the shooting was assumptions, rumors or figments of the imagination and the police refused to release any information to the…

The lives of many were to change on the day of April 20th, 1999, at Columbine High School. With the death of twelve students and one teacher, it was to be the deadliest mass murder committed on an American high school campus. The massacre, committed by senior students Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold, sparked debate over gun control laws; whether the availability of guns across the United States, especially to young people such as these, was socially acceptable. This event is what sparked Moore to create his documentary, ‘Bowling for Columbine’.…
In the film Michael Moore explores the question "What makes the US have the most gun deaths than the rest of the world?" By exploring this Moore and his viewers explore a variety of reasons, The strongest point made by Moore is that largely through the media the United States is a fear based society. Moore gives examples of this when showing the news from the US compaired to Canada and video clips of behind the scenes news reports showing the true feelings of those covering the news. At one point a reporter acts as though he is bothered by the tragic killing of a six year old girl but when the camera is off is only worried about how his hair looks.…
